Diff Gears Change

Hey guys I have a question about the differential gears. If I wanted to change 4.11 gears to 3.73 how much would that cost me to take it to a shop and have them do it? Thanks guys

Most shops are $200-$250 for labor plus parts. Some are less.

Just so you know, this probably doesn't qualify for the "Emergency Room" section. That being said, Ron's post seems to be pretty close. Are you planning on replacing bearings and such while you are in there, or just gears?

I just had this done and it was almost $600. That included labor, new R&P, and all new bearings.

I was going to say "around $550" with gear & bearings. But the price depends on brands.

To clarify, that was with a Motive Gear gear set and Timken bearing.

I was just quoted 200-250 for installing new bearings and ring & pinion with me supplying all of the parts. This is in Sacramento, CA

I charge $325-375 labor for a gear change depending on what rear. I will ONLY use Timken US bearings and depending on the rear, the kits run $125-$175. Gears are another story altogether. For daily drivers I strongly recommend OEM gear sets for noise. If it is anything else, I make the customer supply the gear set.

Lots of guys will do the $200-$250 swap, but they are simply swapping parts, reusing the same shims and hoping for the best. Rear gears have to be setup with the proper tools to get the best longevity and lowest noise possible. This isn't the $50 Raytech pinion depth tool. I have a set that is an OEM tool and VERY accurate for setting pinion depth and backlash/preload, a dial torque wrench for setting turning torque for pinion bearing preload, and a non Chinese dial indicator. I would look for a shop with quality tools that isn't afraid to show you what they use to setup gears.
