I'm a long time Ford owner and currently have a 65 mustang fb, that's in the process of being transformed into a corner carver. I recently came across , what I think may be a good buy for a project car with my boys.
A friend of mine is selling off his (deceased) brothers 87 Monte Carlo aerocoupe, which is need of some restoration. Everything is there and the drive train was, (in his best memory) in working order. The brother had taken apart the front clip and stripped the interior. He primered the car in preparation for paint, but became ill , never being able to finish it. He said he'd take $1k as is.
My dilemma is, that we already have issues in my house with Cubs/White Sox rivalry, am I just adding fuel to the fire by bringing in a CHEVY?!!!

Those cars have some hardcore fans, so you could probably double your money on that if you think it'll ruffle too many feathers at the home front...

I had Dodge all my life, sold my last one and went to a Ford Mustang 69. No big deal. Car is car. Get what suits you. The only stuff I find 'dodgy' is buying fords and putting chev engines or buying chevs and putting ford engines. If your gonna stick a chev engine into a ford, you may as well buy a damn chev then or vice versa. I was caught up on car rivalry once upon a time and lost 10 good years of fun for it. Always loved the look/size of the Mustang but because it was a "Ford" I didnt want to touch it. So I was a MOPAR OR NOCAR guy. After 10 years of learning, I bought my first FORD (in avatar) and WOW I wish I did that 10 years ago... bloody car rivalry mentality! Its obvious the Mustangs are the American Legend , if you wanna try other stuff you can

MCSS's make cool cars, and there are lots of suspension parts for them now. I had a nice low mileage one a couple of years ago and regret selling it. Great driving cars.

Forget the whole Ford vs Chevy thing, their both cool American cars. I don't really understand all the hatred between Ford - Chevy -Mopar, but many of those same guys have a dang import sitting at home ???????

Nah, not blasphemy. You are actually saving a classic. I hate to say it, but my GTO is the only American steel I own now out of 5 cars. It was not always that way, but I sure do enjoy daily driving my G35S.

After your replies and prodding from my son, we decided to contact my buddy to see the car. Besides , if it's good enough for Earnhardt, who am I to question it.
Monkey wrench thrown into the works. Apparently the sister-in-law has taken $200 as 'hold' from one of the neighbors, but the guys is not really into the car just thinks it may be worth the $200. The sister -in -law didn't say anything to my buddy and the one problem with it is that my buddy has the car in his garage and the neighbor (they all live on same block)has no where to put it, which is what started this whole thing , buddy wanted car out of his garage. I think the neighbor is trying to see if he can make $$ from someone else with nothing invested. My buddy still holds the title but is waiting on the neighbor to see if he will remove the car , if not, may be offered to me.

Heck Ill put any engine in any car had 2 Rangers with 350 chevy /PG (same engine/trans, wrecked one built another). fun is fun. Car=fun,,,and frustration.

Finally, got to see the car. Turns out its not an aerocoupe , but an 87 MC SS with T-tops. The car was taken apart more than I was told, all glass removed but its there except windshield has cracked from the top left corner. The car was completely primered and looks to be very solid. The interior is gutted and parts everywhere throughout the house, but everything's appears to be there. The engine/drivetrain appears not to have been touched. What a shame it wasn't the car I thought it was, the price was right at under $1000.
