      Another 67 Camaro Build

Hey, guys! Well, I've been looking for the right first gen for years now. I lucked upon one in Craigslist a few years ago and finally pulled the trigger on it. It is a completely bare roller. The guy I bought it from bought it when it was running and driving then stripped it down in anticipation of restoring it. So, it is bare; the chassis was sandblasted and primed.

It came with a 350 from 1967, a Muncie 4 speed, and a 12 bolt rear. I'm selling the motor, trans and rear. Why? I'm going with a Speedtech front subframe and a Speedtech torque arm rear setup with a shortened complete 9 inch rear. Also, I plan to swap in a LSx motor with a t-56.

Only pictures I have right now are from the trip to pick it up. I'll snap some better ones tomorrow when I'm pulling the rear.

The Grand National isn't mine. I'm storing it for a friend. It is for sale, however. Only 54,000 original miles!

The care came with new sheet metal for the rear render fenders, left and right floor pans, trunk pan, hood, trunk (which you can see). Everything is in the back of the U Haul. I'm in no rush to finish this project. It was a great price and the perfect specimen (in my eyes) for my project. I'm looking to go a little different than normal with the wheel choice. I'm really thinking about going with Work Meister S1 3pc. We'll see. Suspension, brakes, and wheels are first in this journey. Looking to go really aggressive with wheel fitment and ride height.

      The plan (high level):

      Suspension:
      • Speedtech Front Subframe
      • Speedtech Rear Torque Arm Suspension
      • ridetech TAs all around
      • Willwood Brakes
      • Work Meister S1 3pc

      Drivetrain:
      • Chevy LS series engine (would love to do a 6/6.2L N/A setup)
      • T-56
      • 9" Rear

      Exterior:
      • Deep Gloss Black
      • No front bumper

By storing the Grand National do you mean "Occasionally blaze the tires to make sure it still runs?"

thats all the payment for storage I would need.

Nothing wrong with "another" '67 Camaro build, in fact, I rather like them.

      Removed the 12 bolt.

Tackled removing the 12 bolt today. It rained off and on today and I have the other car in the garage so it was a bit of a maneuvering fiasco. Had to get some help from my brother and a friend to turn it around and get it back in the garage.

Had a bolt break off that held up the leaf spring on the passenger side.

12-bolt was sold today! Have someone interested in the motor and trans. Let's hope they get sold before I leave for Paris. If not, not a big deal. I'll just sell em when I get back in about two weeks. Going to pop the question to the GF while I'm over there. Wish me luck!

Well, I'm back from Paris and officially engaged. Luckily, she is as excited about this build as I am so I don't have to worry about giving up my project. Haha

Looks like the next purchase will be the SpeedTech Rear with Ford 9" Rear Housing.

Then I'm torn between the ridetech TQ Series Shockwave shocks or the ridetech TAs.

I found a Strange 9" with 4.11 setup for 31 spline axles for 1000, brand new. Should I get it while I can?

Congrats on the engagement. I was just in Paris last week.

Looks like you have a fairly clean shell there. As for repairing the rust around the trunk gutter, you can get new replacement channel from jegs or other sources . It sounds complicated but easy to do. On the back window, depending how bad the rust is, you can make patch panels and weld it in. I made a couple of patch panels on my firebird, and for smaller rust holes I just welded them shut.

      Good luck

Thanks! We had a great time.

Looks like I found the part at Year One. https://www.yearone.com/Product/1967-81-camaro/rw49 Should do the trick!

Also, I had a good time looking through your LS swap. Looks like everything is coming together nicely. I'm hoping to come across a good deal on a 5.3/5.7/6.0 Iron or Alum LS series motor. However, I think I'm gonna be a bit SOL when it comes to finding a T-56 at a steal of a price.

Thanks on the congratulatory remarks and on the info about the rust repair! I found the replacement trunk channel from a couple different places and also found a kit that replaces the rusted spots around the window too. So, looks like I'm good to go. Just took a bit of searching around to find.

I'm torn if I want to go with a larger displacement NA motor or build a TT 5.3L iron block. Ideally, I'd find a 5.7L aluminum shortblock somewhere at a good price. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe from a sponsor?

Also, does anyone think 4.11 with a t-56 is too much gear? Should I go 3.73? I want to get good gas mileage on highway trips. I'd really like it to be fun on track (HPDE) though. While playing in a straight line is fun, it isn't my biggest priority.

When you fix the rust around the rear window make sure to have the trim handy. Before welding anything in place, line the trim up and make sure it still fits correctly. Some of the window channel up in the top corners had a horrible fit from the factory. Mine were way off, but I had a vinyl top on my car. Then to top it off I did some welding myself and did not think to check it out with the trim before welding it up solid.

Thanks for the tip! I'm not sure if I will be doing the bodywork or my friend (who actually does this for a living). I'd love to but honestly I'm terrified. Haha. I want to use the flush glass without the trim. Would that change the approach?

      Question about DSE tubs...

Since I am going with the Speedtech Coilover/Torque Arm setup in the rear, do I need the full DSE mini-tub kit or can I just get the DSE Deep tubs?

Picking up a LS1 shortblock this weekend and ordering some stock 243 heads this upcoming week as well!
