NEED help asap with hotchkis rear leafs on 68 camaro

ok im installing my rear hotchkis 3" lowering leaf springs and the pads didnt fit between the leaf and the axle.. so basicly the pin that is in the leaf spring is just sitting on the axle and causing movement.. what options do i have here? should i just cut the rubber down so it will fit? seems like there would still be a gap because i dont think the axle has a place for the pin to go into.. can anyone please please help me out asap

The exact same thing happened to me when I installed my 3-inch drop Hotchkis leafs on my mono-leaf 10-bolt. I just cut down the sides of the polyurethane pads with a razor and slipped them in. That spaced everything out enough to where the very end of the pin rested nicely in the small recess on the mono-leaf perch.

Your right that there will still be a gap between the spring perch and the shock plate. That's one of the things on my list to correct when I get time.

I wasnt concerned about the space between the bottom of the spring adn the lower bracket as i was about the pin from the leaf just sitting on the axle.. so if i cut the sides of the insulator then put it in there it will be ok? did u use pads on the bottom or no?

I just used the pads on top. I've been driving mine this way for about a year and a half with no issues so far. Actually, I just went and looked at my car and the pin must be pretty tight against the spring perch. I smooshed the polyurethane pad pretty good...lol

Another option I considerd would be to use a thin lowering block on top of the leaf and cut off the pin on the lowering block.

I used a 1 inch block and no pads top or bottom for the last 2 years of hard racing, never a problem

Agreed, I used to cut the sides off but now dont even use the pads. I dont notice any difference one way or the other.
