      Are those ladder bar brackets?

I don't see any pics of the axle ends, but I am guessing c clip eliminators. You will have to remove the four bolts holding the bearing retainer, like a 9" ford. You may need a slide hammer to get the axles out.

I believe the carrier is a "gov-lock" or a GM truck G60 positraction. Some people cal them grenades.
The housing appears to be a GM 12 bolt from an A or B-body. I wasn't aware that the two (housing and carrier) were compatible.

i dont think its from a truck, the ring and pinion gear part numbers are for car carriers, and from what ive read you cant put car stuff in trucks

What Ken said-looks like a Gov lok and 12 bolt housing.

There is a 8.5" 10 bolt for an A body that could have a Gov lock. It has bolt in axles no c clips but sure looks like a 12 bolt housing.

Yep, a lot of people mistakenly buy these thinking they are 12 bolts.

Yep, thats what came in my car. It was used from '67-70. I would have been better off if the previous owner had kept the Corporate 8.5 that was supposed to be in there.

OP, the truck posi may be in there because I believe the units from Ford 8.8's can be retrofit into these. Look for any casting number on the housing and it will tell you if you have a BOP type "O" rear axle also count the number of bolts are on the ring gear.

See if you find a casting number of 39413, 394139 or 402227 anywhere, they are all for Olds type "O" housing

Here's a pic of mine I removed to give you an idea where to look

The Chevy/GM trucks used the 8.5" Gov Lok with a 30 spline axle. The carrier swaps into the "normal" 8.5s although using an Eaton 30 spline real posi for the trucks in them get you a stronger axle than the 28 spliners. What I just used in the 81 TA when I freshened the rear in it and have for the 78 also. Be interesting to see what the spline count is.

      8.8s use a Gov Lok?

Im Pretty Sure That The Ring Gear Has 12 Bolts. Ill Double Check When I Get Home Tho, I Grabbed An Eaton 12 Bolt Car Carrier Out Of Another Rear I Had And It Seems To Fit In The Rear End, But The Covers Are Definitely Different

I agree with Ken on the diff. It is absolutely a GM gov-loc ... which has a LOT of issues. So plan on selling that on ebay ... cheap.

I agree with Donny that it probably has bolt-on housing ends with a sealed roller bearing pressed onto the axle ... called C-clip eliminators. Very common in sportsman drag racing.

So far, Tim has said the only thing that makes sense on the housing, in that it may be a '68 to '70, Olds ... with 12 bolt cover & 10-bolt 8.5" ring gear. Count the bolts on the ring gear & measure the diameter of the ring gear & post that info for us.

Yep, Its A 12 Bolt Ring Gear. Now I Just Gotta Figure Out What Kinda Cover It Takes. THe Eaton Posi With Car Ring And Pinion Dropped RIght in And Work, Although I Havent Set It Up Yet It Looks Like It Will Work No Problem. So Who Made A Rear End That Took A Twelve Bolt Car Gov Lock lol
