      Thread sealer for bleeder screw

Bled the 81 TA today and one of the new rear calipers is seeping around the bleeder threads not out the bleeder hole. I know some bleeders have some sealant on them(other side feels like it does)-checked and new replacement ones available don't. Teflon tape on the threads only?

Pulled the old one out and saw it is a cone seat so it had to not be sealed. Luckily I found some new in the box ones I had on the shelf at home that did have thread sealer also, unlike the ones at OReiley. Sealed good, just takes an 11mm instead of 10 mm wrench and actually the nipple for a hose sticks up more for easier bleeding..

The only time I've sen sealer on the threads is for speed bleeders. This is to prevent fluid/air from passing by during bleeding.

As you saw it is a cone seal. The caliper may be cracked or the seat is damaged.

      Thread sealer for bleeder screw

The purpose of the sealer is to prevent galling. The cone is the sealing surface.

The new bleeder had a slightly more angled seating surface and so far is doing the job. From what I could tell when I pulled the old one the caliper surface looked even. Hopefully just a bad bleeder screw.

Now I can pull the car out and freshen the front brakes!
