Water temp gauge for Trans temp gauge?

A temp gauge is a temp gauge, no? So it would stand that I can use a temp gauge meant for water as a temp gauge for the trans as long as I have the right boss in the trans pan. Same with a temp warning light for water plumbed into the system?

i have done that in the past, weld a bung in the pan and you should get correct trans temp, in the trans lines will not give accurate temps, make sure you put it where there is no movement in the pan to hit the sensor

I was wondering this the other day about using a 100psi oil pressure gauge for an EFI fuel pressure gauge since the gauge company only makes fuel pressure from 0-15psi.

If the fittings don't leak I don't see why not. Pressure is pressure. I did ask a local trans builder and said as long as it doesn't leak temp is temp.
