Picked up some new brake line. Anyone else use this?

I was picking up brake line fittings at my local auto parts store and he showed me this brake line from S.U.R.& R. It's a nickle plated line that bends very easily and won't rust. It is also made in the USA!

Compared to the zinc coated line it is much nicer looking.

Just for chits and grins I polished up a short section.... looks real nice.

I haven't bent this other then to test it but it bends real nice. I'll give it a run and let you know how it works.

Sure its nickel plated or a Cu-Ni alloy aka Cunnifer or NiCopp? - Volvo and some others use it - NAPA carries it ~$2/ft. I ran it on my Nova along w/SS outer spring wrap to protect it. Its nice stuff. -Bob

      Thanks Bob,
Maybe he did say nickel alloy... I got the 25' roll for 40 bucks with tax... It does say a few OEM's use it on their site.
How did you like it? Did it bend and flair okay? It seems to be very easy to work with so I am hoping I made a good decision.

As the others have said - best of both worlds. I did use a bender for the tighter radius bends and it double flared easily.

I now have it on my 97 GMC after the third brake line replacement over the years. I like it.

All the advantages of stainless without any of the disadvantages, what's not to like?

That's what I'm starting to think. I am going to try to get out to the shop after work tonight and make a few test bends and flares. we'll see how it goes.
      Tobin,
Can we put together a kit with my required line lengths and all of the brackets and clips to hard mount the lines? I'll go back through my list and let you know what lengths and end fittings I need.

Thanks Bob, much appreciated! I got out in the shop tonight for a couple of hours and all I can say is this stuff is great! It bends and flares very nicely and polishes up to a nice shine!
I ran both lines on the rear diff tonight in a little over an hour. And that included polishing one of the pieces and doing a couple flares...

Polished compared to the zinc plated stuff. I like.

This is the drivers side going out from the junction block.

The passenger side was a little more involved but I got it done without wasting any material!

I will be making another bracket for the clamp you see in the middle of the picture.

The line routes along the back of the housing until it gets to the upper four bar bracket. It then sweeps up over the tube to the front to get it away from the shock.

I know it's a circuitous route but this was the only way I could see to do it cleanly.
Both lines sweep back over the axle to the brackets for the soft line (use your imagination to "see" the brackets)

I still have to sweeten up the lines and make a couple of mounting brackets but the hard part is done and it didn't take long at all...
I posted this in my build thread so I'll continue it there.
Thanks for all of your comments guys.

Those lines look great. I see they make 3/16" and 1/4", which size did you use? Is there any rule on what size brake line to run? Any benefits to one over the other? Sorry for all the questions but this is one area where I haven't done my homework, always just used what was there.

MOST everything can be ran with 3/16th line. There may be a few uses for the 1/4 inch stuff but the larger line requires more fluid and some people say it doesn't work as well on long runs because of the greater fluid volume. I really don't know myself, I just go by what I pick up talking to people.

I don't have time right now to bust out the math, but it is sufficient to say that you will have less system compliance with the smaller 3/16" line. It is what all OEMs use now (or metric equivalent). The only argument for 1/4" may be when using drum brakes.

No math needed, please! No drum brakes in my future at all so I guess 3/16" will be good. Thanks.

Just ordered this kit for my 69 Camaro project! I will post my feedback on the kit once I begin working with it.

Are you guys using the coil that runs around the tubing to protect the lines? If so, where are you buying it? I would also think putting this on before bending would help protect the line from kinking while bending?

Too get this you have to buy line with it already installed. Its not something you put on your self and its mostly for heat dissipation and abrasion resistance AND on steel line will make them rust even faster, know this from spending years replacing lines like that.
And no they dont keep the line from kinking,, this is what a good bender is for.
