problem with getting parts for my project

where do you draw the line on being patient getting all your parts that have been paid for.i am building a 69 conv. chevelle and have dealt with a few vendors on this site.one of them promised me parts in 3 months,now it is going on 2 years. these are custom made pieces and i am not naming any names yet.3 weeks ago i was promised a few parts said they would ship on monday.still nothing.i have e-mailed him left plenty of messages and no response.this has delayed my project 6 months now and recently i told him i was on a tight schedule and if he came thru with everything i could get the ball rolling again and shoot for next summer. i don't make threats to him or do i want to get a long-distance lawyer. if i said who and what the parts were you would understand that the build of the car revolves around these pieces.the part that upsets me the most is he doesn't answer the phone or return my calls. he does every once in a while but doesn't seem to come thru with everything i need and was promised. i know i haven't posted here alot but who wants to post about there car that seems like it is never going to get finished. thanks greg

hmmm its tough with custom made parts..did you pay for these yet?..if so id ask for refund and find someone else to make them..if you can find something thats is a shelf item that you like buy it instead..can still post your project ..some take a long time to get done no biggie here..

I'm right there with you. I ordered some normal items that I should have got with in a couple of weeks and it's been about 4 months and I finally got everything but 1 thing. Promised to show up this week. We'll see. I have been really patient. I didnt want to talk bad about this company as there a vendor on the right side of this page.

Waiting a long time is only part of the game sometimes, one off parts can have to be done 2 or 3 times to get them right and that is expensive. The one problem you get when you rush parts to be made is getting them to be right. you might get them sooner if you push but you might get parts that are not as good as they could be.

Believing that there is only 1 place to get custom parts from is up to you to decide that because only you have the vision of what you want.

Goodluck and maybe go see your car and sit down with the builder for a bit and get it straightened out.

Regardless of the fact that they are custom parts customer service is customer service no matter what is being purchased.

If they cannot build it in the time they specified then they need to be open and honest with the customer and get a new agreed upon schedule or allow them to go elsewhere. When it is a part or item you can only get at one place it makes it more of a wait or change the design decision.

The experience sticks with the customer long after the newness of the shiny part they purchased wears off.

jim i understand what you are saying,that's why when he said 3 months and now its 2 years somethings wrong. it's not the builder holding me up, he worked on some other cars while we were waiting on the pieces.


Brian, what you said is exactly how i feel.when i finally received some of main parts the excitement was long gone.i have owned my own business for 25 years,if i did business this way i would never make it.i am in the transmission field and when you tell people 1 or 2 days to get there car fixed and its not finished by then i get them a rental car on me. i haven't ask for anything from this person except what i paid for. greg

what's up rick.as soon as the car comes back from getting everything fitted on the body it will be coming apart for the final assembly. i will start posting pics then. should be at the first of the year.hopefully my parts will be here by then. greg

the OP's situation is unacceptable. in situations like this, the vendor should always be called out. posting your story could save other potential customers your pain.

Sorry to here. I agree with Brian, customer service is key. I always pay with CC so I can call and get a refund.

In my other build forums we have a thread called
Exceptional Service ;
"A topic to share your positive experiences with builders and suppliers".

I think this is key so others can avoid bad or get good service.

you are alot more patient than me how does it go from 3 months to two years. In my part of the country is called pure :bsjerk:.....I would get my money back and have someone elbuild it for me even if it costed me twice the money because money I can replace time we can't...

You guys don't understand Greg can't go any where else these parts are made by a sponsor of this site, they are the ones who developed these parts. This car is over the top and not many have been built to this level. All I can say is when you guys see this build you will all love it for sure. Come on Greg just give them a teaser shot???

2yrs is taking the mike,in this resession the supplier should be lucky he has not been named and shamed,what's stopping the supplier just turning round and saying sorry no good or going bust 2yrs wasted,there must be loads of companys now that would kill for some work, even out of country.

What kind of parts are you waiting on?How much money have you paid for these parts? If you're not in the same state as this particular vendor,there could be legal ramifications that don't require a lawyer.I seriously doubt that this vendor is the only one who has the ability to produce the parts you want/need.
