      Custom Driveshaft...From Who?

Who should I go to for a custom length drive shaft, considering cost and value?

Should I go Aluminum or Steel? This will be for a street/auto cross car 500+hp.

      thx

We've used 3" aluminum from a couple of different manufacturers on our 66 and are getting ready to move up to 3.5". The last one we had made was a 3.5 Aluminum from Dynotech for our wagon and it is a work of art. My money is going to Dynotech from here on out.

I have a 3.5" aluminum Denny's, rated to way more than I'll ever make. It's a fantastic piece, and Denny and his crew rate a solid A+ in my book. Denny will answer the phone himself and answer any questions you may have with no upselling. Seems like a really nice guy over the phone. Plus you get lifetime free labor if anything has to be done to it.

x2 for Denny's. When I called, I wasn't sold more than I would use. Of course, I was willing to go for the best of the best but after discussing my needs and the fact that the driveshaft would NOT be my weakest link, I got a great product with great service/advice.

After some shopping around, I decided to get one from "ShaftMasters" it cost $350 shipped for a 3.5" aluminum with 1330 joints. Seems everyone uses the same metal, but they said they guarantee their work for life too.

I was looking into Denny's, but for the same unit was going to cost $500.

      Thanks,

Yep, we've been running a Shaftmaster in our 66 since making the LS conversion with absolutely no complaints.

Quick turn around too, I spoke to them yesterday morning and the drive shaft is being shipped today. Denny's told me two weeks to shipment.

I know you already made a selection, but I wanted to give a 2nd vote for Dynotech. Very easy to work with and they do great work. I think it ran around $360 for aluminum, but that was a few years ago. Motor is somewhere north of 850HP.

Here are the pictures as promised. Overall the shaft looks good. Its not as smooth as the ford motorsports shaft I had.

I've used both Denny's and Precision Shaft Technologies. Both were great to deal with, can't go wrong either way.

There's driveshaft shops all over the place. I use a local guy.

I wanted to bring this old post back because since I got a 9" and moved over to a T-56 I needed a shortened driveshaft. Looking into Shaft Masters again and looked a few more variables. I was going to go back to Shaft Masters but noticed that their lifetime warranty on workmanship and welds seems to have dropped to a year. Denny's driveshaft was probably the most expensive, but they have a good name out there. What drove me away from them was the long turn time and the prices are the highest. I was looking at their site and they all come with slip yokes. I asked if I could get one without a slip yoke and they would but only a $35 deduction from the price...Looked at the site and the cheapest yoke they had was $65. So I guess I was lucky enough to still pay for the profit they would have made on it.

I ended up buying from Inland Empire. The price was $500 without a slip yoke, but they are local, a sponsor, and said they would stand by the shaft for my ownership tenure.

Seeing that all these companies use the same Forged Weld Yokes and 6061T6 aluminum, Im going to post pictures of it here for comparison with ShaftMasters.

Here is the Inland Empire shaft. Looks really good and the welds seem much thicker than the shaftmasters. They also smoothed it.

I went with a local guy. Drivetrain of mesquite. Everyone around the area recommended them. He made me a new driveshaft, 3" steel 44 7/8 from center joint to center u joint, installed my yoke, and 1350 rear hd bearings for $300 out the door. Would have been about $100 cheaper if i had a good core
