Custom LS2 Cold Air Intake

As part of the project with the LS2 transplant we had to fabricate from scratch a cold air intake. Here's what we did

We bought some .50 wall 4" DOM Aluminum tubing.



Thats a BIG tube



We welded in the LS7 slot type port for the MAF






Put a mounting tab on the end close to the filter





This port is for the crankcase vent intake.



Mocked up on the car







All welded, ground, sand and test fitted.



We painted the cold air intake with bedliner to give it a rougher finish, just didn't want it smooth.









Spectre 8" double cone filter. we did remove ALL the branding on it as well.



We think the results speak for themselves.

Material costs around 100.00 plus the LS7 blade style MAF, MAF fitting, the AF, silicone tubing, and clamps, labor about 7-8 hours all said and done.

You also have to get your MAF scales redone as the LS7 MAF runs at a different freq, and the tables are different.

Also unless the car is here, you cant get it exact. We had to cut and fit the tubing to the car so it fit perfectly.

We can do it however.

Looks awesome! Spectre does sell kits for alot of cars that look just like that....At least you can say you did it your self!

This is a custom car we are building for a client. If we could have sourced one that looked good we would have as it would have been cheaper for sure. The spectre filter was 35.00 on the bay. Tubing was 100. It is 4" diameter. Spectre has no kits without extra seams the require silicone tubing. Wanted a one piece.

Air inlets can be cookie cutter or to each their own , I'm a fan of the 2nd. Your's flows all it'll ever need, get's weather safe cool air, & could outlast the car.The texture probably looks a whole lot better with the shape of the pipe & the rest of the underhood than if you'd spent another 4 plus hours sanding & buffing.
The worst part about your inlet is the average person can never truely appreciate the work it takes to make a part like that.Even doing a part to be texture coated can be just as much work to make look correct as it would be to polish.
The best part about yours is it'll never be called wierd or strange like mine.
