      Panhard rod 1967 Firebird ??

      Hi guys

I need some advice regarding my Firebird. Under hard cornering my rear wheels hit the wheelhousings. This only accurs, when driving on the track. I really don't know what will be the best solution for me. My setup is: global West 2 inch drop springs, polyurethane bushings, std shackles, koni shocks, 275/40-17 tires. Tire to wheelhousing 3/4 inch. I've thought about:

      1: watt's link drawback = 1000usd+, loosing my exhaust
      2: panhard bar ?
3: reinforced shackles or/and delrin bushings??
      4: spacers ))

here some "evidence" regarding leaf spring lateral motion

help my guys - hope you understand my english

      Stefan

I'd start with option #3. And does the car have the rubber blocks around the springs where they attach to the AXLE housing?

honestly find your flex first but a Wats link from Fays2 sure wont cost no $1000, heck SC&C had unversal kit for like $500-$600ish if I remember.
BUT for my cash I would swap over to an AirBar from ridetech with the double adjustable coil overs at least. Leafs springs were on Connestoga wagons, why have them an performance cars? Still only like them cut down as swing arms.

plus taxes etc. - at least 1000usd to Denmark. Here in Denmark we are not very "carfriendly". My car is registred as a "vintage" car. Therefore it has to be "original". Fourlink etc. may result in extra taxes - 10000-15000usd.... since the car is taxed as a "new" car. In Denmark new cars cost the Baseprice (what you guys pay) plus 180% in taxes.
I'm therefore stuck with "near original" modifications.

Check with Keith at Customworks. He makes a delrin shackle kit for 2nd gen Camaros to help with your exact problem. Its cheap and worth a try.

      Prettier underneath...

Hopefully, the following picture will work. I put a Maier Racing Panhard bar for a Mustang on my Falcon, and it worked amazingly well; keep in mind that I've got the tiniest rear fenderwells known to man, so the space is chronically at a premium. My street is like a really long, awesomely twisty 10-mile race track, so trust me when I say I'm sensitive to the effects of lateral suspension/tire loading. I've recently gone to some super-duty shackles and rear leaf bushings, and rims that are an inch wider, with lower profile tires; the changes are the result of a recent crash that bent the original flexy shackles...

a panhard bar or a watts link can be fabricated to fit your chassis with a little work, then you avoid the taxes and shipping. The watts link can be built to work with many different exhaust systems, too. The panhard bar is simpler and may be the ticket for you, research the tech for these suspension parts, not too complicated.

Thanks guys. I'm going to make some new bushings and fabricate new shackles. If that's not enough I think I'll try to fabricate a panhard rod!!
