      Help!! turbo selection

      Help!

The goal; Building a street driven (with a little drag and autocross) car with my 14 yr old son.

The car; 1970 Camaro pro touring style... T56, 4 bar 9" rearend, big brakes, AME front subframe...

The engine; LS__ (L92, LSX?) with twin turbos & intercooler. I'm looking for about 700/750 rwhp.

The problem; I haven't built a car in 20 years. All my knowledge is big blocks, 750 Holleys, dual point ignitions... the deeper I get into selecting engine pieces, the more confused I get! Quick throttle response is important. Not grenading the engine in the first month is important... I'm trying to get a sense of just what engine combo to put together for a street driven, reliable, car of this magnitude is required. I have read, and received quotes, etc. with suggestions that are all over the map regarding just what needs to be in the bottom end to reliably hold this together. Also, how are turbos selected relative to the cam/heads/induction and ignition?

And no, I don't want a supercharger; we have our heart set on turbos ;-)

I would love to find a build thread or otherwise from somebody who has been there and done that!

Are you sure you should check out the new procharger
With variable boost, it looks like an oversize turbo right? Lol

Yup, so many hours spent on reading, but it's worth it. Mark's thread should answer most questions you have about TT into a 2nd gen.. caution tho, it is a LOT of fabrication.

Quick response, I'm partial to smaller twins and lower compression on 87 oct.(GT28's w/.86 AR turbine housings) 370cu/in max (Garrett gt2871r)

8.7cr at 10 psig boost. Now that it's breaking in, I think it's around 650rwhp. I've yet to put the 15 psi boost springs on, but they should get me 700rwhp.

Call turbonetics and talk to one of their techs. Tell them exactly what you have and what you are looking for they will tell you exactly what you need. They arent pushy with their sales either. These people know their stuff!

You can check out my thread in this section about my 67 E85 with twin turbos and ls 5.3 should easily make the power you are looking for. I am also going for a driver with throttle response so I kept the turbos resonable sized. It can even be done on a somewhat modest budget if you go the easy route like flip the truck manifolds and such.

Check out the C5 and C6 forced induction section of the corvette forum. There are a lot of great engine builds and a lot of good ideas. There is one twin turbo crate motor option with Turn Key Engine Supply. $19k for a complete motor with inter-coolers and all hardware is not bad. I have thought of buying an lsx 376 B15 with a Holley Hi Ram, and add a turbo kit. So many choices, lol.
