      H-beam vs. I-beam

I am building up my L92. The block had some detonation issues and three pistons were damaged. There was very minimal scoring of these three sleeves, so it is going to be honed .005 and I picked up some Mahle 4.070 pistons. I think I have decided on Callies rods and they have a budget minded I-beam. For what I want to build the motor for, I think these will be fine. I am going for a bottom end that is better than stock, but the engine is going to remain NA and will be for street use and occasional autocross. I can't imagine ever revving it very high. i am going to do some searching on LS1tech too, but I thought I would ask here. Should I just go ahead and step up to the H-beams?

Rod use is usually determined by RPM. If you don't plan on spinning the motor high I don't see why the I-beams would be a problem. Unless you are trying to make over 1000rwhp, at that point it would definitely be worth putting a good rod in the motor.

      John,

When I was trying to decide on rods I heard disucssions about the extra weight of the H-beam rod making is "weaker" than the lighter i-beam design at higher RPM's ....or something like that. Do you have any thoughts about this theory?

      John,
I would be interested in hearing your recommendations for rods that you guys offer. I would also like to hear your thoughts on a TSP can for my build. Doing a L92 build with a 4l80e in a 74 Firebird. Goal is mostly street, some autocross. No particular HP goal in mind, but I want more than stock for sure. A little bit of lope would be nice.

Thanks for the recommendation but all of the VVT stuff is gone. This will be an LS3 for the most part.
