My first gun was a devibiss gti 1.3 tip ,it was ok...then i got my first satjet 2000,hvlp and rp for clear ill never use anything else these are all used ebay guns too bought for under $150.00 ea

X2 on the sata. I am a novice painter and first bought a finish line and I am sure in the right hands it's a great gun but then I borrowed my buddy's sata jet 2000 which is an old gun and the predictability of it made for and easier time painting the car, I was able to replicate my passes on each coat. I guess what I'm saying is if your as novice as I am give yourself every advantage that you can. The sata jet 2000 was maybe 3 models ago so pros will sell them to buy a new gun, check eBay and local paint shops and see what can be bought used.

I'll second the SataJet 2000 or 3000 both are fast guns so get ready to MOVE while you paint. If you want to go a little slower, nothing I've ever used out duels my Iwata LPH400. Lays pearls and clears like a dream.

I was in the bodyshop business for many years, I had sharpe, devilbiss, Iwata, Sata, All good quality guns, I think you should think a little about what you are going to be spraying, Basecoat clearcoat, Single stage urethane, Acrylic Enamel or High build primers, The fluid nozzle sizes are different and It doesn't matter if you buy the best gun money can buy, If you spraying clear through a gun that is designed for base It may through you a little curve ball, Not saying it can't be done, I would think that would be your best or find one in the middle,

I've painted all of two cars. I am happy with my Devilbiss Finishline 3. This gun successfully sprayed high-build primer to clear using the 1.3/1.5/ and 1.8 tips. After trying to make several Harbor Freight guns work I gave up on them and upgraded to the FL3. As a novice I didn't want to buy a high-end gun and heard that some of the mid-range guns worked well. Learning how to make your gun work is maybe most important, regardless of what you buy. I practiced on random metal panels.

I paint just about every day and if you want a good quality gun then go with the SATA 3000. I use the Sata 3000 HVLP for base and SATA RP for clear. yes they cost a little more but use them once and you can turn around and sell them for what you bought them for. You get what you pay for and good tools will cost a little more.

If you are on a budget and not doing paint for a living,Finishline will do the job just fine, but if you can afford a couple of $600-700 guns, Iwata or Sata is where it's at.

I use finish line with separate guns for primer, base, clear. Haven't tried more expensive guns. Also shoot a lot of enamel/industrial type stuff, harbor freight does a reasonable job on a paint that flows out well, I use them to shoot primer at times, they're cheap enough to use a few times and pitch, or modify as needed,
