Anyone have a single post lift?

I'm thinking about one of the single post portable lifts that are available at several websites, including Derek Weaver and Greg Smith sites. I like the idea because I have in-floor garage heat, so I don't want to drill the concrete. This lift would work for a lot of regular maintenance, but especially for my 68 camaro when I need to raise the body alone. Any comment?

Are you talking about like this:

      or

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't feel comfortable getting under something like that. Plus, I'd be banging and tripping over the feet all the time.

You don't need to drill the concrete for 4 post lifts either. Plus you can move them around relatively easy with a proper set of casters. I regularly move mine outside to do some of the nasty dusty work.

I hummed and hawed 2 or 4, but in the end went with the 4. As it was my first, and probably last, lift I don't have anything to compare it to, but one thing I am happy about is I don't have to get down on my knees and fiddle with arm/pad positioning before lifting. Just drive on and push the up button. Plus I got about 10 ft of extra workbench and tool trays. All I would recommend is getting extra cross beams for bottle jacks. I only got 1 and I sometimes struggle. Been planning to get another one made up, but haven't gotten around to it yet. You can do with the sliding jacks, but I found them to be way too expensive and then would essentially be in your way all the time. A small 2-4 ton bottle jack allows easy access for most any suspension work.

      Just my opinion on lifts.

Thanks BigDawg. yes, those are the ones. I have a 4 poster now, and it's great as you say for most stuff, but obviously you have to be able to drive or push the car onto it. I was thinking that raising the body without the wheels or even subframe on would really be handy with the single poster. I would use the the tall 3/4 ton jack stands at each end of the car for extra stabilization. I agree, it does look a little shaky, so I wanted to get some input if possible from anyone who has one. I'm thinking that the weight of the car is going to firmly plant the base, but in all cases one would have to be smart about balance before raising the car and/or adding or removing parts.
