Coatings for driveline items?

I am reusing the old axles in a rear end and I am thinking about zinc or cad plating for corrosion protection and so they will look nice for a while. If I cad plate them they will get baked to avoid hydrogen embrittlement. My real concern is the drive shaft. I am thinking about powdercoating it but worried about balance. Could one be balanced afterwards?
