Speed Tech Torque Arm or Ridetech 4 Link on 1st Gen Camaro

What are the benefits and disadvantages of the two systems? I'm pretty split on which direction to go. I know both have excellent quality, customer service and the products work.. Has anyone had experience with both systems that can make some comparisons?

We offer bolt on Torque Arm kits for 67-81 F-Bodies & 68-74 X-Bodies with 10 bolt & 12 bolt rears.

We also offer kits for the guys who want a Ford 9" that includes a bare Strange housing for $600 more. Take a look at the link below detailing an install that a member here completed with our Ford 9 in. kit in his 1973 Firebird:

Here is a video of a customer who got 2nd place in Street Machine Class at Kansas Good Guys recently. He is running air over shocks and had not adjusted the roll center via Watt’s Link….. he should be able to cut about 2 seconds off this time just by addressing these issues.

Here is a VERY informative tech article written by our R&D manager explaining what it does:

Let me know if you have any questions about the kit we offer.

No disadvantages to speak of with the Speedtech Torque arm. Easy install. lots of Room for 3" Exhaust OVER THE HOUSING and have a low ride height with no issues. No floor cutting, easy set up.
Includes Articulink trailing arms with Delrin bushings. billet aluminum pinion mount and all hardware obviously
1999.00 with Qa1 shocks and a new 9" housing is 710.00 with all the brackets welded on. any width you require, we can help you with that as well as the correct wheel fitment for your car. 345's will fit on a 67-69 with mini tubs.
add 250.00 if you want to upgrade to ridetech shocks. Still a better value.

any specific questions give me a call.

      I do.

ride quality with any suspension is more dependent on shock valving than anything else. with that being said, I can adjust my ridetech tripples to make this suspension ride like grandpa's caddy, carve like a new ss or rattle your dental work loose.

I did my own install on the garage floor and it was one of the easier rear suspension installs that I have ever done. and the required welding is easy to do. while bmr may offer a true bolt in kit, I took the money that I saved by buying the street and track proven speed-tech kit and upgraded my shocks to those badass ridetech tripples. they are an incredible tuning aid be it for ride quality or performance.

if you are going to farm out the install, the welding will cost little extra. if you are going to do your own install and have no friends that weld, welding equipment or skills, you can get everything ready and get a mobile welder to come by and weld it. around here I could get it done for about a franklin if I had everything marked, cleaned and ready.

I too thought about the ridetech 4-link. ridetech makes awesome products, and it is a great bang for the buck. but I'm just a tq arm kind of guy. I also love the fact that no rear swaybar is needed with the speed-tech kit.

I've been leaning towards the ride tech for the ease of installation, but it looks like the hardest part of the Speedtech kit will be cutting the factory leaf spring mounts off and spending some time with the grinder.

Cutting the factory leaf spring mounts off??? I don't remember doing this... Your torsion bar goes into the front half & you dont touch the rear hole... Is this on a camaro or nova?

What about the spring pad mounts on the rear end housing? Do the new brackets bolt to those or do they need to be removed. I will be using the factory 12 bolt housing. Do you have install instructions you can post. I did a search on the Speedtech website but they were not listed.

OH those brackets, sorry didn't understand, yes those need to be welded on, 90% of the time guys are buying the suspension with a new rear end as well. you still need to weld the upper brackets on thr ridetech setup as well, so no real differance there you have to weld 3 brackets on ours and 2 on theirs.
we have a shop in northern LA that could weld the brackets on your rear housing for probably for 120.00 if that makes it easier.

The weldings not an issue, I'm a certified welder, just wanted to know if I had to cut the old leaf pads off and weld the new brackets on. The torque arm is the way I would prefer. Thanks again for all the info

Has anyone noticed any wheel hop issues under acceleration or braking? My biggest issue right now is wheel hop under acceleration. I am running NT01s, so I have good grip and just over 400hp at the tires. I have DSE leafs and GW delalum bushings and have been contemplating a set of caltracs due to the issue, but dont want to sacrifice the handling of the car. I would rather go to the next level if it will make the difference. I didnt think a watts link would help with spring wrap.

Yes the 4" diameter 7000 series just have to be carefull of the clearance with the rear end housing.

Hey Mick, I'm in Aus as well and I have a speedtech kit in a crate along with a heap of other stuff almost at my door. Get in touch with Jay at Speedtech and he will sort you out. Good thing is that I'm able to get the whole kit engineered in Aus so it's legal too.
