You could get it for free and it would not be the difference if it makes or breaks the project. You would be better starting off with as little rust as possible and as complete as possible. I would hunt for one on ebay or the classifieds that is close in better condition IMO.

By the time you get done with all of the labor and the time spent you will probably be able to find one in the color you like and just pick it up. I redid an S15 once and for the time and money all I got was a truck the color I wanted. Yellow was hard to find after a search and I picked up the one I got for $500 and it cost about $2500 by the time I was done with new doors , front sheetmetal, and patch panels.

If you do buy it , use only GM panels and doors. It will cost you a bit more but it is worth it. All of the panels are still available from GM the last time I looked for my 77 pickup which is different but truck and Blazer parts are a good seller for GM and if they don't have them the aftermarket has a lot of junk to weed through.

I would bet that for $5,000 you could get what you want in almost perfect shape and not have to wait or go through the grief of hoping it turns out right. The going rate a year ago for something like you are talking about is between $3,500 and $5,000.
