      Water Wetter

I was wondering if any of you guys had ever heard of and used the stuff called Water Wetter and what you thoughts are on it. My engine runs anywhere between 205 and 220 depending on traffic. Yesterday, it was about 90 or more outside and my car was reaching 220. I have a 195 degree thermostat in it and I am considering replacing it with a 160 degree stat.
I also have an aluminum 4 core radiator with a 16 inch E fan. If there is anything else I may be able to try to bring it down a bit, Im willing to try. Yesterday after parking it, its spiked to about 240 which is pretty warm.

Looking forward to hearing what you all have to say about it.

Ive used water wetter in the past when my car was more aimed at just drag racing, i would use it with straight water for track saftey. Any way i say yes it makes a diffrence, i seemed to notice a 10 degree diffrence without any other changes. For how cheap it is why not?

Fighting a similar issue myself. Be sure your fan is moving enough air and you have a good shroud. Search on here for overheating and you'll get tons of info as to possible causes and remedies. Search water wetter here also,....doubt that's your answer though.
Get actual tech specs for your fan to know. Good luck

IMO WaterWetter and the DEI equivalent product are only useful if you are running 100% de-ionized water in your cooling system.
I have had both products in numerous vehicles and I never saw a temp change from before and after adding either of the 2 products.
I have also found the best water/antifreeze ratio for my area is 75%/25%.
After talking with the guys at the local performance shop they also said that the only real benefit from either is to help prevent bubbling in 100% water along the walls of the block. The more bubbles the worst heat transfer to the water.

Water wetter isn't going to solve your problem. Neither is changing to a 160 tstat. Is your heat problem only at idle and not at highway speed? If so, you're not getting enough airflow from your fan.

Agree with this... look into replacing your single 16 efan with a OEM fan, either dual or large single OEM fan.

When Im driving, it runs between 200 and 205. If I am in traffic or at idle on a hot day, it will creep towards 215, maybe 220 but 220 is rare. Once I get moving again, it will come down. I dont see it as being a major problem but was just hoping to bring it down a few degrees. Its not causing any problems as of yet. Its not boiling over or anything like that...not steaming like I have seen over heating vehicles do.

I appreciate all of your help guys.

You have an airflow problem..albeit minor one. I never like or trust band aid type of fixes like 'water' wetter as it doesn't address the real issue.

Is the fan aftermarket? If so, that's probably your issue.

Yes it's aftermarket. I will look into a different fan.

Changing to a 160 T-stat may actually make the issue even worse. Some times it causes the system to open too early and not give the coolant enough time to cool so you are cycling ever hotter coolant. I personally like 180* stats in all my cars.

I agree with everyone else that it also sounds like a fan issue. I run the Flex dual pulller fans with integrated shroud and never have an issue. Do you have a fan shoud on the car as well?

Is your timing and vacuum advance correct? Vacuum advance will create heat issues at idle if it's incorrect.

I agree with a 180deg t-stat and I would also recommend a fan that will move a minimum of 3000cfm. I have a flex-a-lite that is rated at 3300cfm and a two row Be-Cool radiator and my SBC never gets over 185 even in traffic on a 90+deg day.

Ok, because I couldnt remember, I called Performance Cooling, the place I ordered my radiator and fan from to confirm exactly what I have. Its a 4 row radiator with the 16" fan which is rated at 2500cfm. I think my best bet at this point is just go away from the 195 degree T-stat and go with either a 180 or 160. Thanks for everyones input.

If the fan doesn't have a shroud with it I would highly recommend getting or making one as well.

No shroud. Should it go from each side of the radiator, covering it completely with nothing but a whole the size of the fan? Is that the right idea? A picture of what I would need would be awesome if someone can share. I know where I can have one made probably cheaper than I can buy one.

I put in a 160 degree T stat. Car now runs about 195 degrees. I can handle that. Better than 205. Maybe in the future I can put in a better fan and radiator set up.
