I guess it's safe to say my shop is done and I finally got all my junk under one roof.

I still have a few things left to do (install TV, paint trim, etc), but now I can get back on the projects!

I finally have some updates worth sharing!

I pulled the 454 out of the El Camino and it's now at the machine shop for some work.
This is the #7 rod bearing. It didn't spin but I'm sure if I continued to run it, it would have spun eventually. Minimal damage so hopefully it won't be at the machine shop for too long.

I picked up this 4L80 from a pt.com forum member...

I was going to get back to work on the wiring but as I thought about it, I decided I should get the exhaust routed first. It would suck to run wires and fuel lines only to find out I have to reroute things to clear the exhaust.

I started with this universal kit from Flowmaster...

Once I had a mental image, I started cutting tubing and fitting it in place and ended up here. In this shot, you can see the modified '66 Chevelle trans crossmember, the 4L80, and the collectors of the Chevelle headers.

Until I have the actual engine in place, the H-pipe is just wedged in.

I'm going to set the bed in place before I finalize the tailpipe locations, but this is kinda what I'm thinking...

Like I said above, before I finish the tailpipes, the bed needs to be in place. After staring at it for probably too long, I decided to raise the bed floor. I'm not 100% sure on the "right" way to do it, but I have a few ideas on how I'm going to do it.

But first, the original rotted wood needs to be removed...

Then the sheetmetal on top of the rotted wood needs to be removed...

      So far, so good...

Now that the dirty work is done, I set the bed on to see where things are...

After looking at it, there's more than enough room to run both tailpipes out the passenger side like I originally wanted to do. So now, I have to go back and cut some of the exhaust and re-clock it to make it work.

But of course, I got sidetracked by the front bed wall. At some point in it's life, a load slid forward with enough force to bend the wall into the cab. Now the bed isn't square.

I spent most of the evening trying to get it straight but no luck. It's straighter then when I removed it, but it still has a kink that I can't get rid of. For only $130 I can have a new panel. Decisions, decisions.

I was able to get the front bed panel pretty straight so I got to work building the bed floor structure over the weekend and for the most part it's done. The one drawback to the way I did this is that I had to remove the panel I made to mount the compressor and valves.

Great looking work Herb. I really like the stance of your truck. Looking forward to seeing it handling the corners.

I read through most of the thread and may have missed something but did you do anything to the suspension aside from the air ride equipment to get the stance?

Thanks Chris. Things should be moving along a little quicker now that I have the engine back from the machine shop.

The suspension is all ridetech. The only thing I changed is the location of the bed floor. The suspension kit is designed as a bolt on system that doesn't require any body mods. Because I used shorter bump stops I had to raise the bed floor to clear the differential when it's aired down.

Thanks. I got them at Lowes, $299 each - 6 ft diameter, 6 speeds, remote control, and a pretty decent light (once the bulb warms up).
