Ironworks Project 69 Camaro. Sixtynine R/SS

I have owned this 69 camaro for over 20 years and it is time to updated it to the Pro-Touring level.

I first took the Camaro to Drew Brothers Custom to replace any body panels that were rusty or needed replacing. I have been storing NOS parts for this car for years so Rob Drew got new NOS Quarters, hood, valance, cowl, tail pan and other parts to use for this build. Drew Brothers fit all the panels and helped with geting the DSE sub frame and suspension on the front along with a 9" from DSE for the rear with sub frame connectors. Rob will get the car back for paint soon.

I have been talking with Rodger at Ironworks Speed & Custom about some of the items that I wanted fabricated on the Camaro so last weekend I made the trip to AZ to pick up the Camaro from Rob and bring it to Bakersfield CA. Rodger will be adding 1980 Jag door handles on the doors, fitting the massive 8.1 496cid Big Block Chevy engine, adding a Mustang rear bumper and reworking the rollpan below the bumper, flush mounting the windshield and extending the cowl hood scoop to the front valance among other treatments you will have to check back on to see..

I had a cast manifold that was dveloped by Arizona Speed And Marine when I worked there and there was 3 of these produced, Two went to GM for testing and I kept one for this project. I have added Mercedes Indy car Injectors from Penske Racing to the manifold to give it a unique look and get the cool factor...



Rodger has the engine in the car and it fits pretty good and will surely fill up that engine compartment.

Paul, glad you like the manifold, it has been a long wait to get this motor and car moving forward. The injection was done a few years back and it has been in my dining room as I did not want to put it in the garage! Looks like the Vintage Air Front Runner is going to fit on the Big Block as the water pipe and t-stat will go on the back of the heads to clean it all up.
Rodger will be adding pictures as he goes along and it will show the water pipes. The manifold will get shot peaned once we are done with the fitting along with the valve covers. The coils are being moved from the valve covers to the side of the block below the headers.

Rodger has moved the front turn signal/driving lights out to make room for the air inlets that he will be cutting in the lower valance. Now we need to make the new headlight covers with the two windows and not the three like factory.

Here is the stance with the 19" tires and wheels, these are not the ones that will be going on the car.
