ls1tech.com would be a better place to get your answer than here.

      What kind of LS motor?
      What kind of transmission?
Stock reworked harness or new harness?

Answer these questions and each goes into 2 more questions. etc.

Best bet is to do a ton of research, then spend a few more hours researching. As said above, start reading over at LS1Tech.

It would be cheaper to sale the 96 and buy a 98 & up with ls1 already. They are a dime a dozen these days.

Agreed. You can find 98 up LS1 cars for under $5k periodically which would be cheaper than the swap

I spent $10K to put a brand new crate LS1 and T56 into my 3rd gen. But that was 7 years ago..if you bought all used stuff you could do it for alot less..probably in the range of 4-5K. I'd just buy a 98-up now because they are CHEAP!

      LS1 pricing

I had about 5 grand in my swap which included a built ls1 a customer did not pick up. My camaro was a 94 and originally a v6. If you are attached to the car then it can be done but will cost some cash. Here is a parts list.

      Engine
      Trans
      Engine harness
      Front k member
      Rack
      Steering shaft
      Exhaust
      Headers
Ac lines - 96 v6 work great for ls swaps
      Air intake set up
      fuel pump
      Regulator/filter
      Computer
      Tuning of computer
      Nickle and dime stuff

I swapped mine since I had most of the parts and the camaro was super clean and had been in my family since new. Most economical would be to sell yours and buy an ls car. You would probably only be out 1000-2000 instead of 5000-10000k.

If you must do the swap then the engine harness is very easy to configure to the 96 lt harnesses. You can use the stock lines and the corvette filter regulator in the stock location, 96 v6 camaro ac lines for the ls1 ac compressor, computer bolts in stock place, get matching y pipe to whatever headers or manifolds you are using and you will have to fab an air intake.
