      Stopgap Brake Plan

      Howdy,

I'm on a tight budget with my Riviera and I've just done a massive revision of my front suspension and brake plan. Since I need to pinch every penny I'm digging through what I have and trying to make a basic setup with parts on hand but not bottleneck myself into something that can't grow. I'm planning on using C5/6 uprights and hubs so that's driving the direction of this project.
Please comment on my various steps if they are correct or more importantly if it's involving something dangerous or otherwise faulty, I know they atleast the first step is not going to be ideal.

Step 1: I have F-body calipers and am picking up a set of base model C6 rotors soon. From reading up on the 4th Gen F-body guys, you can put C5/6 calipers on F-body brackets and rotors, only needing to step up to C5/6 brackets if you get matching rotors. To me this says I can put F-body calipers on a C5/6 rotor and bracket and since I have all but the bracket this is the path of minimal new parts. I would think the brackets would be available from those doing Z51 swaps but I might have to buy new. This would give me an upgrade over my current 12in aluminum drums and the F-body rotors since I'd be buying the C6 rotors as takeoffs for less than a set of new F-body units.

Step 2: Upgrade to new or reman C5/6 calipers on the matching brackets and sell off the F-body stuff for some price recovery.

Step 3: Upgrade to Z51 brackets and rotors to complete the brake upgrade since this is a heavy car and I'd like the greater brake torque and thermal mass to stop it.

Any dangerous flaws, especially in the first part?

      Thanks,

If you are using c6 uprights, isn't the path of least resistance to use c6 brakes? Why fight an uphill battle when it is so easy and in the long run the cost will be less as you will only do it once. Search around there are lots of used brake kits out there for corvettes and plenty of new parts at really decent prices.

Can I have dibs on the drums.

It would be if I didn't already have F-body calipers. Now if becomes an issue that the calipers with brackets are going to cost marginally more than the brackets alone I'll probably skip straight to step 2. However I've not done the digging needed to decide on that.

I will be selling the drums as they aren't so rare that if I wanted to go back to stock I couldn't. However, it will be awhile before they are available.

If there is no corrosion between the liner and the aluminum I'll take em whenever you are ready.

How much are you offering for them? I might spend against an offer if it looks like they would even out.

      I really derailed this thread, didn't I?

      $100 for the pair.

Well that isn't really enough to alter my plans.

I got a complete set of 2008 OEM C6 rotors and pads with 13K miles for $40! Now just to get the caliper situation sorted out.
