Roger Poirier's 1969 GTO Video Interview

We had the opportunity to chat with Roger recently and shoot his awesome GTO. You've seen the pictures of the car, it's super-bad. Roger is a great guy to hang with, and we were very happy to be able to hear the story on his car. As you may have seen in another post, Roger is getting ready for some medical attention next month, and we hope he bounces back quickly.

I don't know if it's been communicated to the people on this board yet but we all need to keep Roger in our thoughts these next few weeks. Here is what he posted at Lat-G a few days ago.

"Boys, I'm down but not out... I have been very quiet the past few weeks. Ever since my trip to RTTH3 in TN this past fall I have been beat. Exhausted is more like it. I remember saying the same thing when I was finishing my own car last year.

Low and behold I now have a heart condition. It's called heart failure. Usually this results from a previous heart attack or poor eating habits etc.

I have neither. Born with a abnormal heart rhythm called arrhythmias. I know from the past few years I was alway tired. I have related that to some of my past back and intestinal surgeries. Never thought more of it.

But now I'm winded at a whole new level. My heart is functioning at 63% efficiency. The doc's tell me its time to install some hardware.

Pacemaker / defibrillator time. Oh well life is a bitch especially when you are only forty nine years old. However, no time to cry just move onward and upward.

So if you don't see me posting at least know I'm reading everyones post.

Surgery is scheduled for the first of the year. Hopefully in a few weeks I will be able to gain some strength back and be re energized. Kind of like the battery commercial. He,he, my own joke, he keeps on running.....

I've bumped into Roger three times. First two was while he was building the car at a local shop. Say the engine as he was finishing assembly and then saw him building the chassis (looks as good as the outside of the car). Third time was at the Detroit Autorama for the GTOs debut. It looks even better in person, and Roger is a really nice guy. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Roger hope you have done your homework on who you're going to let do the operation..very important to get the right doctor.hospital. There are guys out there that do a lot better job than the others..just like building cars. Good luck..I have a good friend that knows about as much about hearts as any specialist. He owned several rep businesses that sold defibs, pacers, etc..He's been privey to more information than any 10 doctors. Let me know who is doing the operation and what hospital and what kind of pacer etc they are going to use...gotta have the good parts..just like a car..I'm doing fine after my quad bypass...now if I could just start exercising and eat right I might live to be a very old man..

I'm in good hands Bob, it's called life insurance policy. It's up to date! So far this year (07) I have lost 29 lbs. Still feel exhausted everyday.

I'm looking forward to the surgery. Hopefully it will allow me to regroup some of my strength back.

You are right, moderate exercise and eating healthy are the key.

Reading your story has really hit home with me Rog. I think it's high time I started shedding my weight too before something happens I'll live to regret...unless it kills me. Yep...it's finally time. I'm gettin' out of the Fat Business once and for all.

And just think how much faster that Camaro will be then too...lol. I know I can stand to do the same. I know Bob's experience got a few people thinking, now Rodger is doing the same. Too bad it comes to this before we wake up.

Rubes? You lose weight? Buddy I'd kill to be your size. LOL!!! Rupp was telling me and Andrew that his wife weighed something like 115 lbs or something and we figured between he and I we were carrying a couple of human beings on us. LOL!!!

Basically, I don't need to lose weight...I need to shed a small human.
