      3 point seatbelts for convertible

I am just starting the mods on my 69 firebird convertible that i just bought, and i am thinking about safety items as i am looking forward to a bunch of driving this summer. i would like to upgrade from just lap belts to 3 point belts, both front and rear. Any good ideas or experiences out there? I have thought about perhaps a two point hoop to attach front belts to, but not sure how good that would really be?? This will only be a driver, not a track or autocross car. Thanks for any input/thoughts.

Several manufacturers have used seats with integral three point belts. They seem to be used a lot in convertibles. If you do use them you should reinforce the seat mount area in the floor. In the event of an accident all of the forces against the seat belt will be transferred to the floor.
I have these seats and belts in my '04 Silverado and love them. They are without a doubt the most comfortable seat belts I've ever used.

On your convertible , you will want to mount a roll bar / harness bar mount for the shoulder belt ..

Thanks for the input. Would you be able to point me in the direction of these several manufacturers?

Thanks for the input. This is going to need to be a custom installation isn't it? Or do you know of something that perhaps already exists?

Morris was doing them for a little while but found out the mounting points are NOT strong enough! As suggested above you will need to run a roll bar and mount to there, run a seat w/ belt in it (small selection for car sized seats) or fab up something yourself.

If you do run a seat w/ belt built in DO reinforce the floor!!!

Matt you are mistaken about Morris Classic Concepts selling a 3 point for a convertible except with a Roll Bar.
We have Never sold a 3 point seat belt for a convertible because we know there Is Not a Safe Place to mount the third point. We sell lap belts for convertibles or a Roll Bar mounted 3 point.

Ahh, ok Billy. Kim had told me you guys were working on a 3 point for stock converts but found there to be no good upper attachment point?

Either way....we know they aren't avail.
