Project "Black Witch" '69 GP

Well, I've decided to start my own project thread. The car is a '69 Pontiac GP that I bought last fall.
I've done lots of mechanical work before but not much custom work with cars.

So far I had to rebuilt the carb, then came winter so I just pushed her in the corner of the garage.
Took the radiator out to give it a quick paint job, I must of banged it somewhere cause when I put
it back in the car it was leaking. It looks pretty ratty anyway so I got a new aluminum radiator.
Went to my local pick-ur-part and found a nice dual fan setup in a '99? Chevrolet Malibu. Got a
couple relays, a thermostatic switch and a fuse holder to wire up my new fans.

Future plans are to replace the fake wood inside the car with polished stainless or aluminum, OD
gearbox, tinted windows, 18" wheels, drop the car maybe 2" front and 1" rear...

I want the car to look "agressive" which is why I called it Black Witch. Any input will be greatly
appreciated. Progress will be slow, please be patient.

Love the big Pontiacs. Your car looks great.
If you want to dump the faux woodgrain paneling, since its a pontiac, why not try engine turned panels like the Trans Am used. This company makes the panels, you could buy and cut to size. Look great with the black.

Great looking car, I've been hoping someone would build one of these. The black looks killer, and I agree with an engine turned dash, that would be really trick and still maintain the Pontiac lineage.

But I wouldn't let that dude with the axe stand on it anymore!

The more I look at it, the more I like the engine turned pieces. I will definitly keep that in mind.

One of my most favorite cars; my best friend in high school had a 69 model J. His grandfather bought it new and gave it to him when he was 17!! (1980). That poor cream puff had a sad end

I am such a huge fan of the body lines of the 69 -70 GP!
I saw this one on power tour 2008 Slight top chop, big brakes and three pedals!! i can't remember if it was 5 or 6 speed, but it was more than 4!
Top chop looks awesome and the square headlights were a cool touch, but it had a big block Chevy!! boo!

I decided to give the engine a quick paint job before installing the new
aluminum radiator permanently. Got to love it when you can take all the
accessories off the engine in less then an hour.

Also got the aluminum intake glass bead blasted and I'm now in the
process of cleaning all the parts before re-assembly.

Bent some new cooling lines for my tranny. I used 3/8" stainless with compression fittings.
Finding the fittings for the tranny end was a pain. I was told it was 1/4" NPT but it's not.
The threads in the TH400 are 1/2"-18, some odd threads made especially for GM.
After going to a few hydraulic and automotive parts place, nobody could find a fitting with the
same diameter and pitch.
After looking at different options, I tried running a 1/4" NPT die upside-down over a 1/4" NPT
fitting and I ended up with 1/2"-18. Then I used an aluminum crush washer from my bike's
drain plug for a seal.

Gave the car a quick douche and then we went cruisin.
There's enough room under the hood to easily fit a couple
TURBOS

You have to love the big cars....so much room to work with. I used t oclimb into the engine bay on my 63 Pontiac and sit on the inner fender to work on the carby....of course, I was younger, and lighter, then...lol.

Nice! I too have been waiting for someone to build one of these. I pulled the engine out of one at a junk yard back in high school. It was a cool car and a shame it ended up there. I've loved them ever since.
