      Lojack systems MASSIVE discount

For those that have read some of my posts, you know that I'm a big supporter of anti-theft devices and theft-recovery systems on cars. It's a shame to see so many get stolen, and not only lose money on, but lose vehicles that have a lot of sentimental value that can't be replaced.

I worked with Lojack to get a new promo code. Enter ProjectSabre as the promo code, and it knocks off $400. You can also use it when you call in to order, and it'll give the same discount!

My recommendation is to get the Early Classics SVR system with Early Warning and the Extended Warranty. Instead of $1,100, it brings it down to $700 (plus tax). Well worth it in my experience.

I look at it this way: if the car has sentimental value, it's worth it regardless of what the book value is. If no sentimental value, then I think when Lojack is under 15-20% of the value of the car, then it's worth it. So a value of $7,500 or above, then I think it's worth it. And beyond that, say $25k, 50k, 100k, I think it's stupid not to install it. Not saying it'll keep the car from getting stolen, but will make recovery chances MUCH better than just word of mouth.

Is there a monthly subscription fee for Lo-jack?

No, it's a one-time fee. That gives you a 2 year warranty and covers the internal power supply. I buy the extended warranty, which puts it out to something like 7 years, for an extra $99.

$1,100 is nothing compared to the investment made on most of the cars on this site. Drop that down to $700, and it's very affordable (that's where it pays to search for sales or promo codes before buying).

Then again, I've never understood building a high dollar car and not adding something like this in the budget during the planning phase.

Does LoJack work anywhere. I've looked briefly at their website and didn't see service in Iowa or Minnesota. Won't do any good for me if this is the case

You'd probably have to call them for details, as I don't work for / with them, and I'm not a rep. Just a customer of theirs.

I think the deal is that in some states the police don't participate. The cool thing about Lojack is that it's the only system that police can use directly to locate your vehicle via car or helicopter. They claim that the signal they use is not limited to any particular area per se, and travels through walls, forest, shipping containers (god forbid).

You have to have the system installed in the local law enforcement's cars. When you report the car stolen it will be entered into the database and the unit will be activate. If the police car is close enough to an activated unit the car will alarm on a little unit and give a alpha numeric number, and the officer will let the dispatch know the number and then dispatch will tell the officer the year/make/model of the car. The head unit gives a vector and a signal strength so you can track the car down.

Lo Jack makes a kit specifically for cars like ours, it pulls ~300ma every 30 seconds in a 1 second pulse from a non switched source, and it has an internal battery so that it doesn't get shut down if they disconnect the battery. its also pretty small and self contained making installation easier.

here is what the antennas and head unit look like on a cop car:

You can even put antennas on planes and helicopters, ive heard of more than a few recoverys from our birds:

Last night I was doing some research and reading a few articles online, and I found that Lojack posted discount code in one of their blogs that saves $400 off the price:

Enter Save400 as the promo code, and it knocks off $400. My recommendation is to get the Early Classics SVR system with Early Warning and the Extended Warranty. Instead of $1,100, it brings it down to $700 (plus tax). Well worth it in my experience.

      No it doesn't. It's available in ~27 states. I'd inquire about range.....because I read only 3-5 miles
LEO's have posted on my other car forums that your local area needs to have lojack receivers to triangulate your car.
Plus they have to be within a few miles of it

Obviously with triangulation, you need at least 3 receivers spread widely to do this properly.
Each receiver will give you a LOB , Line of Bearing. 3 of them intersect to triangulate.

If they don't, it's useless to purchase. So call your Law Enforcement depts first to find out.
Professionals that know about LoJack have jammers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LoJack#Security_issues

So it's a cat and mouse game either way.

Ive gotten LoJack hits from well over 5 miles away. As said above it needs to be in the car, or on an aircraft to be used though.

One thing to look into with LoJack is that some insurance companys offer a discount if you have it installed, so that might offset the purchase price in the long run.

Is that part of the mechanic's job to verify lo-jack's functionality in patrol cars ??

Do you guys have to get certified to work on these for the department ??

No, we have a factory rep that installs them, good guy and he has done work for members on here. The units rarely have problems. I get hits from the "rabbit" that the local auto theft units use for training purposes. I got all excited when I jumped in a car and the LoJack went off, so I hustled over to dispatch to learn that it was the training one, called my friend in auto theft and found out he was about 11 miles away as a crow flys.

Just to fill people in, in SOME areas there are auto theft units that focus solely on recovering stolen cars, having LoJack is a huge help to them recovering your car.

Meh...i think most people these days who don't want their cars stolen in the first place are going with Ravelco switches.
