      I know the #s at the bottom left are going to be the gear ratio. For example
      3 50
      This would be 3.50 gears. If it has a limited slip then there will be an L after the first #, for example;
      3 L 50
      This is 3.50 gears with a locker.

      9" housing tag

      Is there a way to tell how many splines without pulling an axle?

      Hey Roll, when I Googled the tag from a 9 inch I found on my property, the numbers told me everything I needed to know. It came from a early 70's truck which had the 31 spline axles and posi, 3.25 ratio. I was going to pull everything anyway and see about getting a housing and axle package for a 68 Camaro so I don't have to fab this one. Just use the third member. I can't find a 12 bolt locally! What are the numbers?

      The tag told you 31 spline?

      NO, not the tag. The info on the internet. Unfortunately when I pulled the axles they were only 28 spline! Back to square one.

      You mean info on the internet was wronge! HA. I am not sure of any definite way to be sure there are 28's or 31's in an axle. Large bearing axle ends are a good sign. If the axle ends are recessed, and not flat with just the small depression in the center, then these are usually 28 sline.
