Rick.... Not to take away your post...but I noticed your signature and was just watching Dateline and they had a big thing on Sideshows in Oakland.
They were pretty much labelled as dangerous and out of control these days. I wonder what your take on them is. It did seem pretty bad from their coverage. But I still dont understand it...but it was just interesting I saw your signature right after watching it.

Tim, it's not just the sideshow itself that's dangerous. What's more dangerous is what goes on just outside of them. I've never been involved in them, and I never will, but I've heard some bad stories that didn't make the news out of them. I just wish they'd give the guys a place to go to do it. Keep the hooligan element out of there though.

its kinda like when ya go to a bar and the *too cool guys* show up ...and trash the place lol.....never been to one either but its fun on videos hahaha ....but it cant be more dangerous than street racing ....anything that involves car stunts other than normal driving is dangerous i believe ...but the problem will always be alcohol and guns not the actual sideshow

Side shows are fun, but like they said before its the stupidity, crime and violence that follows one. I been to them when they use to be held at the Homebase parking lot. That was fun.The cops use to hang out across the street then came over and broke it up if the spectators got too close.

Its down right dangerous, people would try to get close to a car when it was swinging. I've seen guys hanging out of passenger side windows and sunroofs with a 40mph swing. Just dumb. Most of the deaths and injuries happen when the police bust it up and people try to run. I was stuck at my shop till 2am once cause of a sideshow in the intersection down the street. It took police 45min just to get there. crazy.

Anyways Rick your car sounds bad ass...everyone crowded the doorway when you took off.

Ya know that sideshow thing wouldn't be a problem if Baylands was still running. What a shame that the place is still sitting there undeveloped after all these years.

How hard would it be for the 5 Bay Area Counties to pony up some dough to open the place back up. Drag strip with a paved paddock for auto-x, maybe even a simple road course. Sure would be a lot cheaper in the long run than having kids (young and old) racing on the street. Besides, it would offer an opportunity for the dorks in the hopped up Hondas to find out that their car really isn't fast.

I've got some videos of them and there is some crazy assed people doin some crazy assed stuff in them...seen some nice vehicles getting pretty close to being wrecked...reminds me of Hot August Nights in Reno a couple of years ago...all the Yay folks were "Trying" to get a sideshow started but it was just too packed. Complete idiocy imho.

A guy doing an occasional donut is one thing, but when you get a bunch of guys together that do not think through their actions and then they start acting foolish in their cars it is a recipe for disaster. The sideshows that are being discussed in the local newspapers in Oakland are a travesty, much more than just a few cars being trashed, lives are being changed in a negative way. I am glad that I am not a teenager or young adult being pulled into this stuff...

ok there is a sideshow every weekend for like the past 20 years lol ....but like everything ...it always gets bad press if someone dont like it ...disasters happen at bars every weekend too clubs ....and just about anywhere you go...is just a small group that makes others look bad

No, not in a parking lot. Sometimes it has been, but most of the time it winds up being in the middle of a busy intersection, closing it off for a while, or in the middle of a street. At times it's in a residential area. Now, it's not just doing donuts. It's loud music, and on the fringe is the bad element. Drug sales, drunkeness, and the sort. Some of us don't mind the car related activity. It should be done in a sanctioned area for the stuff that is going on. No guys hanging out the window, no guys trying to push the car to spin around faster, no trying to see how close you can stand next to a car doing donuts, that kind of thing. It does get out of hand, but the only ones that make the news are REALLY big ones. Those close a busy intersection for close to an hour.
