For GMs like these, get an old style internal spring compressor. You don't use the top "floating" hook section.....feed the bolt down through the shock mount hole in the top of the frame, use a couple of greased hardened washers under the bolt head.
Hook the compressor under the spring a coil or two from the bottom. Tighten up the bolt, this draws the spring up into the frame. Split the ball joints and you can pull the lower arms and stubs safely.
I use a section of chain through the spring and around the frame for safety...huge amount of energy stored in them.

Thanks everyone. I hope to get the back end done as soon as I can. Then get the frame off for some blasting and primer. I saw the abc performance link on another thread and am thinking of getting their frame boxing kit to stiffen up the frame. Seems pretty reasonable.

Said good bye to the body last weekend. I sent this up to my uncles house so I have more room in my garage to work on the frame and suspension.

      Ken,
No not really. Money has been pretty tight. Needed to put in a new AC and Furnice a couple of weeks ago. This pretty much took up any funds for the car. I am eager to start boxing the frame and get my front suspension but I guess this will have to wait for a bit. I saw that you started up a bit again on your project. It is looking good. Nice to hear from you. I hope to start getting some things done and continue to add some progress to my thread. I guess in due time.

Hope you get a chance to get back to it soon....I've got a pile of wife projects waiting for me when the Firebird is on the road, lol.

Just a quick bump to you Mark. I finally was able to make a post with some progress after a year and a half. I hope all is well with you and you are able to get back to yours as well before your boys grow up and go to college or get married like mine did.
