      Re paint question

Messed up a couple areas on my stripes the other day so I'm trying to level the clear to repaint and having trouble with this. I've already cut through the clear in a couple spots and even in those spots it still doesn't feel level near the stripes.
Do they just have to be close to level or?
Also would it be better to respray the stipe color on the whole piece tape and re base the whole piece or should I just touch up areas with color and re clear the whole piece?
Im not a painter so repairs aren't something Im familiar with. Already learned not to Try to blend clear on the body lol.

      Stripes

What part of the car are the stripes on? If they are on the hood roof trunk, I would sand down entire panels, mask and re-paint stripes or where ever you cut through. When you reclear these panels put 2 coats clear on the whole panel, then 2 or 3 extra coats clear over your edges, and then 1 more over entire panel. This will give you the extra build up to sand down the edges and polish or reclear the entire panels again. You can blend clear on panels but it is tricky and takes practice, it works best on Sharp edges and then polish out.

When respraying the cut color, only blend in the color where you need it to prevent any unnecessary edge build up.

Thanks.. I was leaning that way, but wasn't sure the quickest way to do it. I cleared it to begin with because I figured I would just level everything and repaint. Problem is it seems like there is always an edge where the stripe meets the body color.
The parts are the hood, header, and cowl panel on a camaro. I must have missed a spot taping on the hood so some blue overspray got on the white stripe, and a couple bleed throughs near where my fine line met the mask. And the fine line lifted in the corners of the vent opening after the first coat of color messing up those lines.

Only cut through on two edges.. Had my long block and wasn't paying attn to the edge. Just makes it a little harder since I have to dust coats on to avoid lifting the edge

put as little stripe color on as possible to repair those areas....then re-clear
You will need at least 4 coats of hs clear to hide the edge and not cut through. I have had better results using a semi ridged sanding pad for this rather than block...still flattens clear but is forgiving on uneven areas that may get cut a little too much
