      Dual Clutch options?

      Hi ya'll,

I'm looking to update my '05 GTO with a new engine/trans. I would really like to keep the car an automatic, and want more than 4 gears - so a 6L90E or TCI's 6-speed is in my near future. On that note, are there ANY dual clutch trannies out there that could be mated to an LS3? I would figure the answer is 'yes', but would be either cost prohibitive or couldn't handle the power levels I am looking at, so this is more of an excercise in getting options and starting a conversation.

Any trannies? Maybe a Porsche or something that might be more plentiful than others? If I'm going to spend $5k on a transmission, maybe there is a DCT in scrapyard somewhere for around there. Or maybe they're all going to be $20k.

      Any ideas? Information?

      Thanks,
      Max

A dual clutch automatic is really a mechatronic manual. And mechatronic manuals are not very adaptable. They require custom tailored clutch apply and shift algorithms. A good amount of finesse is required to keep those clutches from fragging. With production vehicles, every car is built to the same spec. But as far as transferring the hardware and electronics over to your GTO, it would take about $75K with much of that money going to the custom calibration, not hardware.

Thanks for the reply Steve. On to the next idea.
