Did you put nails in the holes before welding ?

Smart :-) have used a copper bar before but this wil not give so much heat damage due to limited "filling/ welding" of holes.

It would have worked slightly better with a smaller gauge nail but the head size was spot on, took me a minute to remember to start the weld on the nail and drag into the sheet metal. Only two hours of work there.

I like the boxy older volvos. there's a guy in my neighborhood with a white one, dropped pretty severely, w/ a roof rack and a keg on it.

Following with great interest, considering doing something similar for a friend to get his feet wet. Here is mine.

I love it! I have considered a drag build on another 242 when I'm done with mine.

So after a start on the body work, the threat of rain almost every day required I primer the bare metal, much to the chagrin of my neighbors I'm sure.

And while it's up in the air I can replumb the brake system with the new Wilwood combi/prop valve

Front is all done, rear will be tomorrow, then the joy of bleeding brakes!

I've also working on an adjustable panhard bar, after lowering it the rear end sits further towards the passenger side. I'll shorten it then weld in the grade 8 bolt for adjustment.

Also picked up a new/used 33 gallon compressor to replace my 2 gallon unit.

So today was rear brake day but I need to make a mount for the handbrake first and finding 1/4" aluminum on Sunday is impossible. So back to front brakes....
New stock Brembo rotors, stainless braided lines, 91' style hard lines, and a little go-fast red caliper paint while we're at it...

All parts swapped out then on to bleeding brakes. I have developed a style that has been honed over years of working on cars that involves putting all the fittings together hand tight, forgetting about that, filling the system with brake fluid, then pressurizing the master cylinder with my home-made brake bleeder as to quickly find all the leaks. Then I forget to cut the pressure to the master cylinder and try to run around and get them all tight to prevent loss of all brake fluid and never getting to them before running out of fluid. Does it work for everyone? No, but I manage to do it every time.

Spent much time ordering parts, trying to finish this first iteration to drive on a road trip the end of this month, it will be tight. Ordered up some open end tuner style lug nuts for the ARP studs I installed on my redrilled hubs.

Then onto finish the plumbing on the brakes, in particular the rear e-brake back to the discs.

Then hacked up the factory center console for a temporary cover until I build a center console

Then it dropped back down to the ground. I'm happy with the stance but I do think it may need to come down in the back a little more which will require more trimming on the fender lips

And this morning I finished wiring and installing the 91' model dash plus the new steering wheel

Next up is wiring the lighting and re-installing the AC parts.

Ordered up black vinyl and foam to finish my door panel project. Then for some reason, parts to fix the Volvo AC, not sure why when the 5.3 will be going in this winter. :p

Flurry of work to get it completed for next weekend.

Started the color change, just a down and dirty satin job for now until I pull the Volvo drive train for the LSX this winter, then a real paint job.

Patched up a few more holes

      Junkyard fresh small manual mirrors

Along with newer style plastic bumpers, 15lbs lighter than originals. Also in picture are H4 E-code headlights

battery mounted, not legal by any sanctioning body but it's always worked for my street cars and beats a bungee cord.

Black back seat and dyed door panels back in car along with the rear deck covered in vinyl

ADD and instant gratification makes me do things like rattle can a car white just to see if I like it,

Of course it was completely taped off and shot in a booth, I'm not a savage.

I had kicked around the idea of Group A stripes like the factory race cars.
