      Converting 69 Gas tank to a 68

      We are contemplating customizing a 69 Camaro's gas tank to a 67-68 style with a billet style gas cap. Besides the filler neck, is there a difference in the 67-68 and 69 tanks? I'm hoping all that is needed would to install a 67-68 filler neck on the 69.

      We are getting ready to do the same thing. To my knowledge there is no difference between the years just the filler neck and that ca be purchased by its self. I would like to know what door you are going to use?

      the tanks will inter change(straps are the same), but the trunk floors are different in the center at the tail panel area allowing the filler neck to come up through the floor, easy enough to cut your own hole and seal it up with some weather stripping

      The tanks are different in the filler location, 69 is lower, aimed at the license plate but the 69 plate is higher than a 67/68. I have put 140,000 miles on a 67, the 67 68 location is a royal pain! Its super easy to splash fuel out which runs onto & behind the bumper then into or behind the license plate.

      ha ha ha , I thought it was just me!! but I hate the newer gas pump nozels I always spill

      I'm thinking of putting a fuel door in my 67, and behind the door the fuel neck would be angled and set up like a 4th gen Camaro with a space around the neck that would allow any spilled fuel to run out a dump tube instead if splashing all over the back of the car.
      67 Camaro RS that will be faster than anything Mary owns.

      I always hated my 67's fuel spill, so I put a 69 tank in. Wasn't sure it would work, so I tested it with a tank someone gave me with a dent in it. Had to bend the fill tube down a tiny amount, and trimmed the top of the tailpan hole behind the license plate. It has worked great for 20 years.
