      LS1/LQ4 Turbo questions/ exhaust headers?

      What is everyone using for their turbo exhaust manifold setup? Im thinking about switching to a dual turbo A/R 60 M24 L Garrett intercooled LQ4 in my 69GTO I have a good engine picked out but have a few questions. I am not looking for a super crazy motor 500-600 FWHP. I am going to port the heads that came on the engine (yes I know what im doing) and have a good valve job done. Here are a few of the questions I have for the gurus out there. I will be pairing this up to a 4L80E

      I found a complete engine from an 04 2500 silverado with 70,000 on the ODM. Will the bottom end hold up to 8lbs of boost without many problems.

      what are the suggestions for exhaust headers?

      What are the suggestions for a cam? I want a good streetable cam with a mean rough idle

      What suggestions can you make for a good intake

      What are other suggested parts I should replace or upgrade?

      Sounds like a cool build up...love to FI the Elco at some day!

      The general consensus is 8lbs is safe, of course thats assuming a good tune. It all comes down to what you wish to spend, a lot of guys run flipped truck manifolds and seem to get okay/good results at that power level...others swear by their $1500 plus custom stainless set-ups. Same goes for the intake, guys run 9's with an LS3 car style while others go the sheetmetal route, and in the middle theres the FAST102. Is it going in a F body? Packaging will often dictate which route to take.

      There's some exceptionally knowledgeable guy's on here, (much more so than I!) but you'll find all you want to know and then some over on LS1tech...everything from mild to wild.

      With a good tune 8psi should be a walk in tha park.

      A lot of guys run the truck manifolds flipped around, left on right, right on left; and some are making over 1000hp on them... Another option would be to use C6 Corvette manifolds flipped; I beleive these flow a bit better, but put the turbos lower IIRC (in a twin setup). You could run a single turbo setup with something like a Master Power T70 turbo; they are good for 600+ hp, and on a 6.0L would spool quite early.

      You could run run an LS6 intake just fine, or swap to an aftermarket mani (Victor Jr.) and use a 90* elbow before the throttle body.

      The bottom end should be fine after a swap to some ARP connecting rod bolts.

      two different animals there do you want a mean lumpy idle or a turbo? you can't have both because the lumpy idle comes from big duration and overlap if you have that you will have boost going out your valves instead of your combustion chamber. what drive system are you running.. 8# of boost is nothing on a stock short block.you have no problem there.a ls6 z06 cam works well for a turbo application if your on a budget.flipped truck manifolds also work well.you won't be disappointed with your decision in the long run.

      You guys have any other suggestion for a turbo and blowoff valve the BAxxARD sold the kit out from under me while waiting for my paypal. So now im on the lookout for a turbo setup that wont break me but can still give me some performance. I only need a turbo and blow off valve and maybe a inter cooler. I can do the rest. What size turbo would you recommend to boost the engine to a max of 12 psi? I only plan on running 8 PSI but ya never know, im trying to find a good size that doesnt have much lag.

      I would personally run a single turbo setup, the packaging is so much easier. Look at a Master Power T70, a lot of guys swear by them and there seem to be hardly any reliability issues. Turbosmart wastegates and BOVs are pretty nice for the money; and once again, a lot of guys run them. I would think pretty much any intercooler will suffice, just look for the biggest one you can fit.

      Crisis averted! I called in the cavalry and picked up a turbonetics T-series (http://www.turboneticsinc.com/tseries_turbochargers) 72mm the blow off valve and wastegate for 1490. I found a killer deal on intercoolers on ebay for a few bucks. I actually think I made out better this way!
