I did this on my car. I added a mount directly to the bottom of the axle tube on both sides and was able to sqeeze the shock in between the tube and the caliper on the driver side. The mount was a piece of square tube with a 3" diameter cutout so I could weld it to the tube. The ends were capped out and I drilled them out so I could put a 5/8 bolt through it. The shocks are not stock but instead has the spherical joint for mounting so I just bolted it to the end of the square tube. You could also do this with a rubber shock mount too. I was able to untilize the stock upper mount location but modified it for the spherical mount only because that was my previous shock setup. Previously I mounted them both inboard and behind the axle using DSE plates. The wheel hop was out of control. With the revised mounting I roast the tires but hop is no longer an isuse. I don't have pics right now but will try to post some when I get home.
