      2nd gen brake kits?

so i know project g/28 is running a baer kit, and they seem to be pretty durn impressive....but i hear baer has a looooot of trouble with orders.

are there any good alternative brake upgrade/conversion kits for 2nd gen f-bodies?

If your looking to go a more inexpensive route and have better parts availabililty then get the spindles of of a b-body car with 12 in rotors, Cop cars, Wagons, and alot of other packages came with these. Then to retain the 5 on 4 3/4 bolt pattern use a rotor off of a 1LE packaged 3rd gen camaro. I am not sure if they use the same wheel bearings or not but I am sure that this will work because it is a very comon modification amongst the 2nd gen guys.

There is a write up somewhere on doing this check some of the 2nd gen sites.

      hope this help James

I don't know what you are looking for, but I am running 95 Z28 rear disks on my 70, it's probably the cheapest route.

Take a look at my website. You can do the swap for half the price that Baer charges.

rick, i know your car well lol i've worn out the pages of that issue of PHR. your car and sw's TA are my two biggest inspirations, and your car is the reason i've decided to leave mine white.

13" that's a serious brake! i will def have to give them a call...

      Hey Cody!!
Are you running the alum.hubs and are they the same as the 3rd gen camaro hubs.
I would really like to get a set if they are the same!
      Thanks!

      Formula,

Regarding rear brakes for 2nd Gen., I researched every kit I came acrossed. I finally decided on the 93-97 z28 set-up, although I haven't gotten a chance to install it yet. My nephew has a 97 z28, so I was able to check out his factory system, looks pretty easy to install.

I found an all new factory set-up (rotors, calibers, pads, hoses, no cables) on ebay.

Check out http://www.geocities.com/torkerscamaro/torker.html, for install instructions. Note, there are several ways to go about the install, (move shocks, modify brackets), I'm going with two RH set-ups as in the website above.

I hope you have better luck than I did with the two RH brackets.
That idea would not work at all on my 70 Camaro. I had to get creative to make it work

What are your plans for fronts and master cylinder?

If you need I can get the part number of the adapter I used to go from 3/16" brake line with a flair to the rubber 4th gen brake line comming off the calipers..

      Blue70,

I think I read some of your postings on this site and another one, did you weld the bolt holes on the mountng bracket, then reindex them? Thought about doing that if I had trouble. Seems like to biggest problem is dealing with the driver side emer. brake lever on the caliber.

Was thinking of using the new master cly. from CPP http://www.classicperform.com/NewProducts/MCPV-1.htm. It's supposed to be available this month. If not I guess the s10 or corvette factory one others are using. What are you using?

As for the fronts, not sure. I have ssbc rotors and pads, ss flex lines, and just put on factory calibers for now. Was thinking of ssbc force 10 2 piston, but I haven't heard much good feedback on those. I have 16" wheels so my choices are limited.

Please send me the adapter part number, if you don't mind. Also, I may pm later if I have trouble. I've checked out your website several times, like the mods you've made to your 70. Especially like the dash/gauges

Ya, I just welded and redrilled. I used the old backing plate as a pattern.

I am using the 1968-1976 Corvette manual four-wheel disc-brake master cylinder with good results, but if you change your front calipers that could throw everything off.

The adapter is Edelmann part number 271300
I got mine at CarQuest for $2.51 each
Other chains should have or be able to cross the number for you. :icon996:

      Thanks for the info.

I'm also running manual brakes, are you using stock front disc brakes? If so what do you think?

Yes I still have stocks in the front.

It's been almost 2 months now and I have yet to do some high speed stops and dial in the proportioning valve. Once I do I will throw the GTech in it and see what I get for stopping distances. They do feel good now though.

How hard is it going to be to find aftermarket pads in the future? Id hate to spend a bunch of money on a set of brakes and not be able to get a pad for it down the raod.
