      T56 conversion with console

My car will be changing from a LT1-4L60E to an LS3/t56 in my 68 camaro this month. The car currently has a standard 68 console with an auto shifter. I am looking for suggestions in deciding whether or not I want to keep the original console or remove it all together. I know the t56 shifter will move back a few inches and from pictures I have seen with this conversion the console does not look right (like it is too far back). I do not have gauges or anything in the console so I am not worried about that aspect of it. The car is a weekend driver and I have considered adding one of those aftermarket one likes this- http://www.tmiproducts.com/chevy/bro...rd-2-1204.html if I decide leave the factory unit out. If anyone out there has any feedback, I would appreciate it.

I thought the 4th gen console would look out of place unless a dash mod was done. You car with the 4th gen seats and console look great Scott. Thanks for posting these

Thanks- I appreciate it. I really wanted a custom console with radio, cup holders, storage, etc. I couldnt bring myself to spend over a grand on one, so I used the 4th gen out of one of my many 4th gen part outs I've done. It has grown on me. I wired both cig ports so I can use one for the garmin and the other for cell charger or other if needed. I only had to trim a bit off the bottom on the long side (one side swoops down while the other doesnt). There is just enough room to fit between the seat belts, and the arm rest is at a good height for me. Scott

I personally like the stock T-56 shifter location....i moved the console back, nobody even noticed it. With the stock 4 speed it feels like you are reaching forward. Its all personal taste.

I am 6'3" and the stock T56 stick location is more comfortable for me too. The console is moved back 2.5" to center the billet shift plate hole.

      Console movement is hardly noticed.

Matt/Tim, can you post of pictures of how it looks with the console moved back? I am still trying to decide on moving it back or get one of those shifter "relocators" that positions it in the original console position. I am 6'1" and use a covans dash so I am not worried about that part of it. Thanks.
