want to do a frame off...but.

don't have a hoist in my garage.
how have you seen it (safely) done to seperate the body from the frame?
it's a full frame car (71 Monte Carlo)
      Thanks

Take as much weight off of and out of the car as possible. Get a couple of 8 ft 4x4's use a 3ft 2x12 across the floor pan and jack the front of car up off the frame slide a 4x4 between the frame and body. Do the same in the rear, block up the 4x4's until you can roll the frame out. Recently did this with a 65 impala at a buddies shop after we got it off the frame and it out of the way we set the rear of the car on a saw horse so it was a little easier to work around.

I did mine with a 2 ton engine hoist and a couple buddies to balance it while I lifted it off. had no issues doing it see my thread's first page for pics https://www.pro-touring.com/showthre...ion&highlight=

If you notice I took some 3/4 square tube and drilled holes on the center-lines of the seat belt bolt holes and then used some eye bolts. the eye bolts bent a little bit when i tried it without the support of the square tube. hers a better picture.

maybe a little late but raise the whole car, support the body, then lower the frame. much easier to handle!

Late also, but may help some others.

When I did my '66 Malibu, I cut a 45 degree off half the edge of a couple of 2x4's, to match the profile of the rocker panels outside of the pinch weld. Then I bolted two pieces of heavy angle, with a piece of 2" pipe welded to the bottom, to the 2x4 set on edge, beveled side up and out. Next I jacked the car up as high as I dared with my floorjack and a bunch of wood blocks, positioned the 2x4's under the rockers and over 4 jack stands and lowered the car onto them. Unbolted the body bolts from the frame amd slowly lowered it from the floor. I had bare wheels bolted on the front, so I just rolled the frame out with a jack under the rear of the frame. The rear axle I had already removed. It's amazing how light a bare body is. A little later I made some pipe pieces with flanges at 90 degrees , bolted on some 2x6 pieces between all 4 "posts", added some large casters and x-braces, removed the jackstands and had a rolling dolly.Name: IMG_0031.JPG
