New valve covers are on, and I changed out the header bolts to the ones that use an allen wrench. Much easier this way.

Car is heading to the shop tomorrow for major surgery.

The Camaro went back to the shop today. Originally I was just going to replace the mufflers with some Magnaflow cans, but since the PO did a hack job on the exhaust pipes, and the manifolds were due to be replaced, the shop will be doing the whole system. The Summit Racing headers are in, and the shop will be test fitting the dual 2.5" Magnaflow X-Pipe system with the Hotchkis rear sway bar:

I have read about fitment issues with the sway bar, so they are going to determine whether it's worth modifying the pipes that go over the rear axle, or if it's better to fabricate the whole system and just use the Magnaflow mufflers. Luckily they have another customer with a fairly stock '67 who can use the whole Magnaflow system if it doesn't fit my project.

What kind of steering box did you end up installing on the camaro? I am researching them now but don't want to spend $500.

      Thanks, Erik

Erik, I used a 12.7:1 GM 600 box from Unisteer (#8040050) that I got from Frank. They don't seem to have it on the Unisteer website any longer, just the 14:1's. They are around $450 with the rag joint.

A couple quick update pics from tonight. Sorry about the quality, my camera is dead, and my cell phone doesn't always take the best shots.

The Hotchkis Subframe Connectors are in, but not welded until it's on the ground.

The 12 bolt is in, along with the Hotchkis 1.5" drop leafs and Swivel Max Bushing Kit. It's starting to look respectable back there:

The new Hotchkis Rear Sway Bar and Chassis Max Brace are in, along with the Bilstein shocks. The new fuel tank is in, I decided to paint it gloss black rather than keeping it a natural finish. Just waiting on a few fittings to fitting to come in so we can finish the fuel pump and rear brake lines:

This is the ridetech billet fuel cap that Rob talked me into. It's a very nice piece:

The Magnaflow exhaust should be here by Monday or Tuesday. We are going to try to fit a full 3" stainless steel X-Pipe system to allow for future engine upgrades. If the tail pipe doesn't fit with the rear sway bar, we may just replace the tailpipes with some 2.5" Flowmasters, since those seem to have a better chance of clearing.

Im running 3" flowmaster tail pipes in my 67 camaro and they clear the Hotchkis sway! Wouldnt think you will have any problems with Magnaflows.

Cool, should find out mid-week if they fit. Rumor has it that the Flowmasters fit all the time, and the Magnaflows are 50/50.

An exhaust comparison (click image to listen). It's tough to compare on a computer, and there's a lot more background noise in the first half of the video. The new exhaust is pretty mellow at idle, but has a nice deep tone when you get on the gas. It also lacks the exhaust leaks that the old system had...

One more shot for today, just a nice cleaned up rear end, and how tight the exhaust is tucked up there:

I took the Camaro out early Sunday morning to bed in the new rear brakes. Snapped a couple of photos while I was waiting for the rotors to cool. I'd like to see the rear come down a little more, hopefully the new springs settle with some more miles. Also the interior is out, and the tank was on fumes so with a little weight it should drop some. You can see the headers and subframe connectors peeking out underneath, and the rear Wilwoods to match the fronts.

WOW! this car looks great and almost exactly what my father and I are doing right now! (67 convertible, discs, new suspension, lowered, 17s, hide-away headlights, etc) we're just 25 minutes outside of Boston, too!
Would you happen to know the backspacing on the wheels by any chance? Do they fit fine, rub anywhere? The tires fit okay too? We're having a hell of time figuring out what new wheels/tires will fit, so any help is appreciated!
Thanks again and very nice work!
