Mini Tubs/rims tires and rear lengths.

Hello: I have a 67 camaro that I am in the process of Mini tubbing.
I am tubbing for a few reasons but one of them is not to get 315's or 335 on it. Partially because I don't like those big lipped rims in the rear. I thought of doing the tubs and simply using a 295 or smaller tire. But the thought came to me how about a big tire without the big lipped rim..

So has anyone done a Mini tub car with lengthened axle tubes?
Just wondering how that would look.
I am after having symmetrical looking rim lips front to rear.

From a place you will not see comes a sound you will not hear....

This is perhaps the best thread I have seen on the topic. https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=46900

I share your sentiment about the deep offset wheels. As bitchin as Bad Penny is, I don't wish to have that much offset. Therefore, I elected to purchase a full width (60" I believe) axle housing with my Lateral Dynamics 3-Link. This, in concert with the DSE tubs I am currently installing, will allow me to have a large part of the "meat" of the rim/tire inboard of the wheel flange.

It should net a look that is not dissimilar to that of CarlC's car, but a good bit wider as he is running 275's on all four corners and I intend to go a bit wider in the back with a 315.

You can do a 8" backspace on a 12" rim and have the "stock look" of the outer wheel proofile without narrowning the rear. We are doing a car like that as we speak.

Have you seen Andy's '67? It's mini tubbed with I think a standard length rear end. This is the look you are looking for correct:

You sound like you plan on doing exactly what I did. Standard width axle with mini-tubs. Looks like standard width tires in the rear from the side:

But when you get the rear or extreme front the width of the tires really pops out at you:

Really digging the look, very nice subtle effect.

That OE 3.73 is worth some money if it is a coded 3.73. Have you checked the numbers?

Another good example is Charley's latest car, "Jackass". I believe it has 19x12 ZR1 wheels which have no lip at all.

Another great looking car. I muuuuuuch prefer this look to the deep-dish thing. Fikse Profil's?

FWIW your thread is linked on Lateral-G.net, Corner-Carvers.com and Camaros.net in my build threads. You really did a great job on it which is why I haven't documented the tubs in my thread. Nothing to improve on.

A original BU coded rear needs to go on E bay. My friends that sell original parts are all raving about how much money original restoration parts are bringing. I would think you could get more then the new rear will cost.

Those wheels have a huge mounting pad on them to clear the big brakes, I have not measured a set but I bet they have 2 1/4" of caliper clearance where most "high clearance" wheels have about 1 3/4" caliper clearance. All this caliper clearance is built into the mounting pad, which pushes the center out towards the outside of the rim shell. I would guess, (only guessing) to get those ZR1 wheels to fit, even with the high pad, I bet they came in somewhere near 62" (2" wider then stock) to fit with no adapters.

If that is the look you want we can do all the math on that also and figure it out. I could call Mark or Charlie and see what they did to confirm.

The rears were certainly a bit pricey but I don't there is such a thing as a cheap 17x12 wheel.

Would you mind shooting me a PM with the hard numbers? I'm pretty well set on the minilite replica wheel but those look really good.

I've all but given up on the use of Ebay for that reason alone. Combine the problems that PayPal can cause with credit card accounts and it's just a show stopper for me. I've given away most of the old parts on my Camaro because it just wasn't worth it to deal with the hassle of selling.
