      My Chevelle

Well, here is a pic of my Chevelle project. It is a 72 and needs a bit of work. the front end sheetmetal is kind of just tossed together right now, so don't mind the way-off feature lines (or the missing one from bad previous body work that I have to fix). The springs should also settle some more. The car has been sitting on jack stands ever since I put them on, so they have not settled yet.

      Here are the specs:
      1972 Chevelle
      350/TH350
      12 bolt with 3.73's

Here is what I have done thus far:
Sanded/painted the chassis (most of it..LOL)
      Poly Bushings on front suspension
      Poly body mounts
      Koni Adjustable shocks
Hotchkis Lowering springs with the front cut a full coil
17" cragar wheels (temporary until I am finished with my HRE's that I am restoring)
Kuhmo Tires (245 front, 275 rear)
      4 wheel disc brakes (12" from a 98+ f body)
Powerslot rotors and hawk pads in front
      Earle's stainless braided brake hoses

Dad came and did most of the exterior sheetmetal work for me. We had to weld patches in both quarters, both doors, both fenders and around the front and rear glass...basically the whole car...LOL... Still needs floors, decklid, and a hood to have the body decent. I also still have to sand all the existing paint off. The car was a "chamelean" or whatever paint, so it is very thick! You can see how thick it is in areas that the welding was done on the front fenders.

      My plans are:
swap for an updated interior with race seats like corbeaus or something and custom door panels and maybe a custom dash.
      tubular front control arms
custom adjustable rear LCA's (Stock uppers for now)
maybe a GMPP Crate motor and a 700-r4 (unless a LSx/T56 comes along when I get some money)

Car should drive very well for a chevelle when I am done, but it will be a while before I am anywhere near that point since money is extremely tight now.

Anyway, just wanted top show you all what I was doing.

Another A-body! We are gaining on the 1st gen camaros s-l-o-w-l-y LOL.
Are the HREs 17" too? Looks like you have a great start and a plan, keep the updates coming.

Yeah the HRE's are 17's. they are old ones (504's) that have the tight mesh like the Grand National wheels. Not really my style as I prefer the BBS style design like the 540's, but I will use them anyway since I have them. I just have to finish blasting them and paint them.... then find out how bad I am going to get raped to have the rears widened to 11"...LOL..

Glad to see another A-body. Welcome aboard.

I ordered the wheels (cragars) early February. They are only Temps. I was much happier with them painted though, did you keep yours all black?

The hood is crap, the photos just hide a lot. It is a fiberglass scoop poorly installed on the stock flat steel hood. I am leaning towards a Fiberglass VFN unit:

As for the BB, no thanks. I have a 396 already that I gave my dad (He bought it for me in the first place). These cars have a poor enough weight distribution with the Small block already...LOL.

I like the Cragars! The look right. I'm sure the HRE will give it an updated appearance and look good as well.

Weight distribution, whats that? I wouldn't trade the LS6 in my 70 for the world!

thanks again for the responses guys!

Paint color I am not sure of. Originally I was planning a 2-tone, but it is getting used A LOT now. Might still do it though. I thought of a Pewter/Graphite or even a graphite/Sunset Orange Metallic. Not sure yet. The car has a ways to go yet. I also thought about blacking out the whole car (to include the bumpers since the chrome is bad) since I have access to FREE flat black topcoat..LOL. Like I said, this is budget minded.

haha...I know exactly what you mean. I'm slowly adding parts to my garage one pay check at a time.

Keep us posted on your progress. I'd like to see the outcome of this car.
Haven't seen many clean 72s around.

Sweet another Chevelle. I was just looking at those pics in VBgarage then saw them in here. I just posted a little story about a 72 Chevelle. But you really shouldn't read it!!
Looks great with the temporary wheels and it looks like you are in the right direction for upgrades already. I just noticed your the same age as me.

I actually read your story. I am the one that replied about going to jail and being on probation over the Police' perception.... :(

deadcarny, did you chrome the lip on the black Cragars or black out the centers on the chrome ones? I know they're just temps, but they look damn good.
