Introduction and Frankenbird (70's firebird project)

Thought i would post an intro...I have been lurking around for a while and recently signed up. I have been looking for a 70-73 firebird for some time now to do up with a pro-touring/trans-am class style for around a year now. I recently bought what was advertised as a 72 firebird but looking at the tail end I knew something was up. I ended up buying the car because it is rust free and now am more confused as to what it is.

The vin and body tag both agree it is a 70. The nose screams 70-73 (i need to research more on how to tell the difference in the 70-73 nose). The tail end screams 74 and the rear window rules out the 75. It is supposed to have a 400 in it and it has a 4 speed. Not sure of the rear end gearing yet.

It starts up and idles but it is struggling to run and will die. It will idle smooth for a moment then die.

Plans include switching the dash to the aluminum dash and finishing the missing interior parts in black. For wheels/tires i want to get black cragar soft 8's with 245x45x17 in front and 275x45x17 in the rear. I want to get it painted a suede black and grill/trim parts/wheels done in shiny black. I want to get plain black rubber for the front/rear glass and I would like to get some black side pipes for it. Beyond that I plan to drive the hell out of it as my daily driver.

Motor wise i plan on swapping out the 2bbl and cast iron intake for an aluminum intake and 4 bbls holley carb that I already have sitting around. I will do away with the points and get a pertronix electronic module for it. And remove as many un-needed vacuum lines that i can. there are tons of lines going all over the place right now.

Here is a link to where I will be putting up new pics/vids as they become available.
