      Race seat install blog

I'd post this directly, but a link is easier. I just updated my blog with some photos and thoughts about integrating an aftermarket race seat (Cobra Suzuka GT) into my Z06:

John, that was an enlightening post. Addresses all the issues I was thinking about with racing seats in C6's.

In the Unfair build, is it safe to say your Z06 is hovering in the back of your mind as a benchmark car?

Very much so! I was talking with Mark Stielow about that exact (sorry for the name drop, but this is a true story!) issue, and he said he'd done the math, and no matter what, the Z06 was a faster car. Just to back that up here's the fastest lap times from Hastings (last summer). Mark was driving Steven Rupp's Bad Penny:

So he went 1:41.030 in his Z06 and 1:49.744 in Rupp's car? Aye caramba, Pro Touring has a lot of work to do.

Or are you comparing your time to "Steven Rupp SORC" time?

No. I went 1:40.124 in the Z06. Mark went 1:41.030 in Bad Penny. Rupp went 1:49.744 in Penny.

The cool thing about the Z06/Bad Penny comparison is that both cars used the same tires: Toyo R888s. In the same sizes too (I think): 295/30-18 in front, 335/30-18 in back.

Another comparison I keep in my back pocket are the rumored top lap times at Spring Mountain for Ron Fellows and the other instructors:

      Stock ZR1: 1:40.x
      Stock Z06: 1:43.x
      Stock Z51: 1:47.x

That Popp hit a 1:42 within his first 3 laps ever on the course, and Stielow hit 1:45 in Red Devil is a testament to how good these guys are. Hope we get some in-car footage.
