I was thinking of painting the 'lip' around the grille the same metallic dark grey that the dusters was, not sure yet...all the front grille pieces are as they came to us.

And yes, i origianally ran Mallory HyFire 6AL and a Unilite pickup (retrofitted into a stock dist) on the Duster. I needed an advanceless distributor for the swap over, the unilite dist was in a box in the trunk of the duster when we bought it. I believe its supposed to be a big block dist, but after grinding ~1/4" off of the shaft that goes onto the timing gear/oil drive it fits great. Theres a section in the MS manual on running an MSD box, Its actually very simple with the unilite. In the tuning software you set a few different parameters up, tell it to look for a square wave signal, the input to the ecm is obviously from the unilite, output goes to the Hyfire box. Two wires compared to i believe 6ish to run a GM HEI with the MS...Hows your efi swap over going, arent you ready to swap over in the winter, rite?

IF all goes according to plan, ill swap this winter. which isnt soonm enough for me. my carb truly pisses me off.

im debating doing the 5 speed or the EFI first. only so much parts money to go around.
efi i still need a bigger throttle body, fuel pump, fittings, pressure regulator, a few sensors, and time. probably gonna rewire the entire car at the same time, as im not happy with how i did it last time.
the five speed i just need a clutch, shortened driveshaft, carpets, some steel, a spare trans crossmember, and a coupel of bearings. id also like to swap to a hydraulic roller at the same time instead of the solid for a little more durability and less mainenance.

so, this winter, depending on what i decide to do first.

I'd have to agree. I had the overdrive a-833 before the t56 and the difference between the two made a world of a difference; it made it into 10x's a better vehicle. Better gear ratios for acceleration-I'd say at least 3-4 tenths on the strip. And ~5mpg better on the highway with the .5 vs .76ish od

Ive been home for the holiday weekend, ill have some more pictures tomorrow of the progress, but heres what the hood looks like on the car, its getting very close to being painted flat black. As far as the bumpers go, the rear is in bad shape..depending on the condition of the one we find we'll either keep them chrome or paint them gloss black.

On my way down i went to a you-pull-it yard and picked up a GM type 2 power steering pump, and an LED third brake light off of a blazer(?). I have a little bit of wiring left to do (hopefully only a half hour, all the wires have been run. Im most of the way through redoing the exhaust. The AN fittings for the hydroboost were on backorder, so that all still has to be done.

couple pictures to add- One of the hack job i did to fit the exhaust, i added a 45 degree bend to each side so the exhaust comes out under the car at the front of the leaf springs. The other is of the fuel pump and filter since i dont think i ever took a picture of it; i tightened all of the fittings down finally.

I ASSUME this is to insure this doesn't happen again??? By the way, excellent progress so far. Keep it up!

Thanks! You would be correct in that assumption, although i dont think anything wouldve prevented me from getting hit that day. I had been wanting to put a 3rd brake light in for a while since a lot of drivers look for it when theyre driving.

Thanks! ...The only tuning ive done on the MS is setting up all of the initial parameters (telling it to look for a square wave signal from the dist, what size injectors im running, sensor types, what kind of fuel itll be running-'gasahol' @14.2:1 stoich...etc) all of the tables are still the base tables that come with the TunerStudio. I was concerned that my low vacuum at idle (~9inHg?) would screw with the MAP sensor, i was thinking id be using a blend of alpha-n and speed density, but our neighboring dyno/performance shop owner told me not to worry, so im running pure speed density..Im hoping everything should be close enough that itll weeze to life long enough for me to play around with things to get them right.

I just got a picture from my dad, the hood is finally painted, i think its so glossy because its still wet, its some leftover paint from the duster's flat black

I dont know when ill be back down there again, things are starting to get busier than i was planning for but all thats left really is to try and start it up!

Big hurdle just jumped: My friend and i finished up welding the intake and throttle body elbow! its not the prettiest, im going to grind everything down smooth for aesthetics while im gasket matching the intake, luckally im more skilled with a set of burrs then a tig torch...I also got my $30 ebay reservoir for the hydroboost pump (aka power steering pump haha). Ill need to tig in another -6AN bung for my high pressure bypass line.

My dad got the master cylinder all ready too

No car work scheduled for me this weekend, im hoping to look at and pick up a Syncrowave 351 tig welder, maybe in a few months my skills will have improved.

I see you happened to take the pictures from the side "your friend" welded lol I know it just happened to turn out that way ;) but I still got a smile out of it even though mine certainly aren't perfect either. I had the advantage though since I got to sit with it for twice as long lol yours will come back once you get the nicer welder than me!

Haha, it's actually just coincidence, you can still see my ugly side a bit. But yea, and more practice time would help too...I'm going to stick to it and point out again that my side also had the bigger gap to fill
