Well i got home yesturday and found out that my dad got a lot more done than i thought, the inner fenders are completely welded in. I cut out the old rear floor pans and started welding in the new. I did a bit of fiberglass work on the hood, its going the need a lot of work though to match the cowl on the car's countour from side to side ...

And just a fun comparison picture:

Thanks that will be great if you could go into some details on the build. When I get it I will start out with the MSII, but really like the features that the MS3 Extra offers, ie sequential fuel injection. You and your dad are doing an awesome job on the build.

I was looking at the MSIII but i figured as an itro to the efi world, it would be a lot better to start out with the MSII. I also dont think that i would ever see a return in the investment of the III over the II-driving a 408ci v8 through traffic is going to suck up the gas no matter what, and tunability would be beyond my skill level...Heres my brief list of parts needed for MS that i took from my excel spreadsheet if anyone wants exact prices let me know:

      MSII kit (unassembled)
      Relay board
STIM (to test it all out)
      Wiring kit for sensors
      Walbro GSL 392
      fuel rails
      fuel injectors
      throttle body
      intake
      regulator (boost refferranced hint hint!)
      AN fittings and hoses...
sensors (intake and coolant temp, TPS came with throttle body, MAP comes with MSII kit)
Total: $1500- and the system should handle well over 700hp+ (except maybe fuel pump)

welded studs to the firewall for my relay board, fuse for alternator, 12v+ bar:

My friend and went to a u-pull-it yard today and got a few things. I took a set of ev1 plug ends off of a Northstar, unfortunatly i later remembered/realized i have ev6 injectors. I took a hydroboost off of an astro van, it looks like itll be real easy to adapt to the firewall, not sure about the linkage to the pedal yet..

I negotiated to have mon-fri off work next week, so hopefully i can get the roll cage in (fedex had shipped half to us, half got on the wrong truck-to Texas), trans tunnel fabbed up, all the floors finalized for paint prep, and play with the hood and hydroboost projects a bit.

Are you going the same route with the Demon as the Duster and painting everything flat black or are you going with a new color?

Ill be doing something similar to G Force Designs 71' Demon- Ill be using flat sublime though, flat black hood, grille, and gloss black bumpers...im working on a plan for some black projector headlights with angel eyes too.

We went back to the parts yard today and got the correct ev6 plug ends, 24 of them total.
EDIT: I called my dad, he told me that the roll cage came in today, but not only had they sent half of it to texas originally, but its the wrong kit too (in a 'good' way) this is a kit for a full cage, halo hoop and all...

This will be a sweet ride.

Keep me posted on your progress. It keeps me motivated working on mine to see others advancing on theirs. I am working on a 1971 Demon. Been buying parts for the last 4 years. lol Will be adding a 440, beefy 727 auto trans, 3.91 posi 8 3/4 rear, Strange axles, mini-tubbed, rear springs relocated, 15x10 Weld Draglites 7 1/2" BS, sub-frame connectors, fuel cell, motor plate, AJE tubular K-frame, front disc brakes, Eddy RPM intake & heads, & 850 Demon carb. I picked up the Tubular K-frame up at a swap meet. Mine is in the body shop now getting the 2 quarters put on and the rusty trunk fixed. The body will consist of fiberglass fenders, bumpers, and deck lid. Haven't decided on hood yet, either metal with twin scoops or fiberglass 4" cowl. I want to paint it matte black. Should I powder coat the Welds matte black? Withe the big offsets in the rear, the front are deeper than the rear. lol Undecided on the roll cage yet. Depends on how much power the motor makes.

Really sucks what happened to your Duster. :( Glad to see your jumping right back in with the Demon project. Have a Safe and Happy New Year. Are you on Facebook? I am Richard Oden in Nebraska if you want to stay in touch. Have a Safe and Happy New Year.

Looks good, but why a flat color? IMO its such an "unfinished" look.

Sounds like a fun build, odie601! It depends on your tastes and the route you want to go with your build, but im a simplistic, no flash or frills kind of guy. Theres probably a lot of cars that are faster and make more power than mine, but i put the roll cage in for peace of mind for the road more so than the track (the roof's sub-structure isnt going to support the weight of the car in the event of a roll over, and neither is your head and neck). Good luck with your build, start a build thread here or post up some pics when you have time, and welcome to the forum!

DartorDemon, The flat color does give off kind of an 'unfinished' look ill admit, but in a way thats because it is. I like the flat because I live in an appartment complex when im up here at college, and park in a parking garage when im going to class. This car wont be safe from door dings and chips for i dont know how long, and its a lot easier and cheaper to spray this flat paint ($150 a gallon-almost enough for 3 repaints) than a base/clear and wet sand it all down. When i 'grow up' and get a house with a garage ill eventually give it a nice base/clear paint job.

what are you planning on running for an intake? im looking at using a magnum M1 MPI manifold modded for the LA head bolt pattern right now.

I got a good deal on a used single plane Victor 340 that im going to drill the runners for the injector bungs. When i find someone to tig those in i also will have a sheetmetal intake elbow tigged up to work with my Q45 throttle body. I went with the single plane because ive heard that the dual planes dont work so well with forced induction. Realistically i dont know how long it will be before i slap twin turbos on it, but i dont want to have to modify anything but the headers when that day comes.

Wow i'm a little late to this party,I just read the 5 pages of what had happened and damn.....thank god for american steel. I have to say you have had nothing but a "Stellar' attitude through this whole situation considering what had happened. You just rolled with the punches and got on the ball with getting another car and getting started ASAP. I was a fan of the other car, and I'm sure I will be of this one!

do you think theres enough material in our victors to just drill the runners with a step in them to accept the injector nozzle and o-ring? i was looking at my new to me 30lb injectors and my victor jr, wondering if io need to install bungs or not.

im debating doing either that or modding an m1 magnum intake for the la head to intake bolt pattern.
my only dilemma with going prt efi is the manifold setup.

Michael, i dont think that theres enough material; i havnt seen anyone do that on the retrofits that ive seen. Im welding bungs in mine.

Well it doesnt look like much, but heres what i got done today: I cut the transmission crossmember out and welded in the new, i accidentally made it about 1" wider on each side at the base than the dusters, but that wont hurt anything. I cut the hydroboost mount up to start fitting it to the firewall, i really want to run it upside down to hide the lines, and get a lot more valve cover clearance. To do this id have to cut up the firewall a bit more, but it'd be worth it in the long run; I still have to see how the pedal to hydroboost linkage looks too.

EDIT: Bit of work on the transmission tunnel. I wanted to re-use the back portion of the tunnel from the duster, but i realized that the accident twisted and bent/buckled the tunnel in 3 different places. I also looked at the hydroboost a bit on the demons pedal assembly, It slightly interferes with the 1/2" angle iron bracing of the assembly. I currently see no reason to make a spacer (if i did itd be under 3/8") it should just bolt in, and use the Astro vans linkage even.

Loved the first buld and am keen to see how the hydro boost goes as I've got an A body with an efi 408 too.

Thanks linkstar69, ill be sure to go into detail on what i finally decide i need to do to finish the hydroboost.

Well, Its been a long day without much to show, but progress was made. I welded up the roll bar, I tacked it, then pushed it forward so i could weld the uprights all the way around more easily-that was a mistake. The cage had warped slightly from where i wanted it from the heat, i just had to use a bit of force to tack the tubes to the floor. I was working on the door bar and the 6"x6" floor mount but gave up early tonight.

      6x6 trunk mounts

pulled cage down after tacking to finish all the way around

Finally in place where it needs to be

Mounts in the trunk are a bit further back, i thought it would help strenght-wise

More tomorrow, My dad and i are hoping to get the major welding done so we can put it on the lift to remove the suspension before i go (to start prepping for paint).

Thanks, the father son projects are always fun along the way, and very rewarding-especially at the end.

EDIT: no new pictures tonight, just worked on tacking the transmission tunnel together while my dad notched out the firewall to fit the hydroboost (upside down). I welded the door bar in this morning, so the rest of the welding consists of the transmission crossmember underneath, and a few tiny patches of sheetmetal in the trunk and trans tunnel.

More pics and text coming later tonight when i have more time
