New project 1970 chevelle project name.... Um.... Not sure yet.

Here's some pics of a car I came across on Craigslist. I have a 1967 camaro that I was wanting to do things to but I paused on it to save up a lot of money. After saving I finally have up some money and I was going to order a small block instead of big block for gas mileage and handling reasons. I was doing some searching on Craigslist came across a 1970 chevelle with 350 bored 30 over with a 12 bolt rear end. As soon as I seen it I went to buy it the next day for 4,900 (: my camaro is an amazing car but needs to be completely restored. I have fixed all of the rust but a body shop would be at least 3,000 to paint it. I am considering selling that car because after driving the chevelle everywhere for about 3 weeks I love it. It's comfortable roomy and also no one in my neighborhood owns one. I am planning on pulling out the motor in the next few months and doing some work to it and then put a rear mount turbo on the car and run really low psi. I am only 18 so I can't afford to do a whole lot but I feel like turbo is the biggest bang for the buck when you consider gas mileage and drive ability.

thanks I really didn't think I would like it as much as I did. I love the car though I have an old 1997 BMW 540i that I usually drive everyday but I'm definitely selling it to give me some extra chevelle money (: I am only 18 but I've worked so hard for everything I have.... everyone thinks my parents buys me whatever but they raised me by making me work for anything I want. I was buying and selling cars for a while until I was told I could get in big trouble without a dealers license. Now I'm focused on my eBay and my amazon accounts but I'd really like to get back into the cars I was really good at it and enjoyed it. Does anyone know what steps I need to take to get my dealers license? I have my retail and wholesale but I was told I would need a piece of land a business phone and a ton of stuff before I can even apply. I live in South Carolina and sorry about the off subject question! I will definitely be updating any time something is done to her

I bought them both 200 brand new and they normally are like 325 a piece so I hopped on it. I actually prefer to buy 17 inch rims so please give me an excuse to spend a little more money lol :p and thank you for letting me know this will be my only car real soon

The paint looked good from far but far from good... It had fish eyes runs and scratches all in it. I got some 1500 abs 2000 grit sand paper ultimate compound and wax and now the paint looks brand new (: super happy with how it turned out I'll be doing the doors and the rest of the car soon

Looking good. Why go rear mount turbo? You've got the room up front and it would save on having to plumb that entire distance. It takes a little bit of moving things around but definitely do-able. Just a suggestion from one turbocharged 1970 chevelle owner to another.

Thank you! I definitely ran across it by accident and I just couldn't pass it up! I can't wait to finish her up (: I am actually getting rid of my old 350 that's in there and dropping in a 5.3 ls motor with a 4l80e transmission and I will most likely do a front mount turbo. I really love when people look at the motor and have no idea what it will do until they go for a ride. That's why I was originally planning to do a rear mount turbo but it makes so much since to mount up front because there is tons of room and it'll require a lot less piping and oil lines . I will be buying the motor soon and I was thinking about putting in an ls6 cam out of a z06. Is it worth it? I know it will loose a little torque down low so should I keep the stock cam for more torque because I plan on running a pretty good size single turbo.

Nice to see another 70 on here. I swear they are popping up very often now for build threads. I'm still building my 70 and I too went the turbocharged route except mine is a "regular" ol small block, nothing LS yet. If I may offer some suggestions..... Try to avoid purchasing a kit designed for some other chevy vehicle and modifying it to fit your needs. I went this route and it would have saved time and money if I had just started from scratch. Of course this is assuming you have the ability/access to a welder and other tools to make the headers etc. You can fit a front mount intercooler (mine is 4" thick I believe...) in front of the stock radiator location but you will have to trim the hood latch support and the front bumper filler panel, both easy things to do. You can fit a 4" downpipe from the turbo back without having to trim into the firewall, it just gets a little tricky.

Anyways, these are things I've learned from my experience so they may not apply to everyone, just thought I'd share. Please feel free to PM or email (dwoodville at g mail dot com) me if you have any questions. I'd love to help if I can.

Thanks Doug for the advice. That looks pretty nice what size turbo are you running? I do have access to a welder and everything I'd need. Do you have any suggestions for who to buy the turbo from? I don't have a lot of money so I was thinking of either a tc76 or mp70. They both seem like decent budget turbos and can produce big numbers. After selling my 350 small block and turbo 400 and turbo 350 for 1,300 I had enough to pretty much do the swap for free. It's been a while since I've updated but I've been super busy on it. I bought 315s for the back and 235s up front. I have the 5.3 just sitting in the car for now because I'm waiting on my 307 frame mounts. The original 350 are just a little bit to short and aren't clearing the power steering pump. My wiring harness should be here in 2 weeks. (:

I payed $380 for the motor all the accessories and wiring harness and 180 for the 4l60 that will be behind it for now. I also had to pay the guy 150 to pull it out. I don't think that's to bad of a price for everything.
