Moser 9 inch axles,BEARINGS PRESSED ON WITHOUT BEARING RETAINER PLATES?

So I am new to a 9 inch rear but bought a complete rear end with new axles and the large ford bearing ends. I am using right stuff rear brake kit and Frank from Prodigy sent Moser some brackets from the kit so that everything would jive when I put it together.. . Problem is when I received the axles, they have the bearings already pressed on with NO BEARING RETAINER PLATE in between the bearing and the front of the axle??? IS THIS RIGHT? I have a bracket for the brake kit but it says clearly in the directions that it should be mounted in the outside of the flange and that it should be sandwiched between the axle flange and the bearing retainer plate.. Why would MOSER SHIP AXLES WITH THE BEARINGS PRESSED ON AND NO RETAINER PLATE PUT ON BEFORE the bearing got pressed on.. Is this right? I would think if there were a special case or a case where you would be re using your old bearing retainer plates they would leave the bearing no pressed on.. Maybe Im missing something here but let me know what you think??

If I'm reading it right and you have big ford ends, then the bearing sits in the end and is held in place by the reatiner plate. Do you have a different set up?

IF you have the "Torino" style big Ford tapered bearing like I think you do, there may be more to this equation.

The crushable seal sticks out about .300" out of the axle housing ends. When crushed, it should be compressed to .150"

My question is what will provide this crush when you tighten the above referenced retainer plates? Normally the backing plate or disc brake bracket would press the seal.

I believe KORE3 makes disc brake brackets that are have the cutout for the axle. You could then use the Moser axle retainers to finish it off.

Worst case scenario is to start over. Cut and then press the retainer and bearing set off and pick up a "cheap" $24 bearing set from Napa and just use the retainer.

the moser ends that I have worked with runs a seal in the axle tube, then the bearing on the axle held on the axle by a bearing retainer ring and then the axle is held in the axle tube by either a bearing retainer ( as linked) or a brake backing plate.

What brand brakes are you running? And are your axle tubes ends ford or Chevy style?

I believe the OP is using a Torino new big bearing housing end. That is the most popular housing end moser uses. It uses a standard sealed bearing not a tapered bearing. The bearing retainer does not need to be pressed on before the bearing. The retainer is a U-shaped piece of steel that you install after you slide the axle into the housing. The open end of the retainer plate allows it to slide over the axle and then bolted into place. This is how most aftermarket 9 inch retainer plates are now. Moser part number 9750 is for the retainer plates.

Lol, wish I would've seen that when I did my 9" 13 years ago!! I got my axles like he did and ended up pressing the bearings back off and back on after putting the stock retainer plates on the axle! NEver seen those before now, pretty cool!! LOL

Mark, does the disc brake caliper mounting bracket not serve as the axle retainer plate? I'm not very familiar with their kit, but depending on the thickness of that bracket, I wouldn't think that the OE retainer would do anything since it would be too far away from the housing end to contact the bearing, let alone retain it.
