Here is a link to my bandsaw conversion thread. Less than 200 bucks and this thing cuts steel all day long.

I bought a Milwaki Portasaw and the bench top mount for it. This has been a great investment. When located in the mount I haven vertical bench mounted band saw. I can remove the saw from the mount and have a truly portable band saw.

      Works great!

I bought it from a supporting vendor of the site. If interested I can post a pic. I believe the mount was less than $100 delivered and a really heavy duty piece.

I bought this http://www.harborfreight.com/horizon...saw-93762.html and I wish I did it sooner. It cuts pretty straight as long as you have everything set up right. I also found that the ridgid blades work pretty well and you can get then at homecheapo or lowes (I cant remember) for about $12

Thanks to all for the advise I went ahead an bought a 14" rigid band at home depot on sale 230.00 not the greatest but it will have to do. Its made to cut wood no adjustable speed and ofcourse it will not cut metal.
So I had to sacrifice my best china drill press, pulled motor and 5 step pulleys and I'm trying to slow it down I should hopefully get it done by tomorrow.
I didn't know rigid was china made !!!! Damm it

I converted my HomeDepot Rigid bandsaw to cut metal a few years ago. To slow it down enough I had to use a jackshaft with two set of pulleys. The blade speed is slow enough to cut aluminum, but still to fast to cut steel. The only place I found that sell correct length metal cutting blades was McMasterCarr.

Me too. I may own the very first one ever done for that. Paul Ruggles (who worked at DSE at the time) made 3 kits to that purpose, and I have been using his original prototype ever since. I've worn out a dozen blades or so cutting 3/16 to 22g steel, aluminum, stainless steel, etc.

That looks like the same saw that I bought from Northern Tool. The only thing is I wish that I had bought a larger saw. The 4x6 may sound like it would cut a variety of things, but I found it very limiting. The 64.5" x .5" blades can be found at Lowe's, Northern Tool, Harbor Frieght, Sears...just about any of the hardware stores carry this size blade.
